This is the first time I've ever gone online to complain about an apartment, restaurant, pretty much anything in my life. This place is so awful. I can't help but laugh at their mistakes sometimes. Shiloh Valley Overlook has proven to me that they DO NOT CARE about their tenants in the slightest. Here are my last 8 months in a nutshell: 1) Move in Day- We were promised and shown a different unit than the one we actually moved in to. They gave our unit to someone else and had us move into the one next to the one we actually wanted. Wasn't a problem at the time but became a huge issue later down the road (Don't worry, I'll get into that). You don't really have a choice when you have nowhere to live and 2 full Uhauls full of furniture. 2) They seemed it wasn't important to tell anyone that lived in the neighborhood that someone was SHOT AND KILLED in September of 2015 (A month and a half after I moved in). My balcony looks directly towards where this incident happened. 3) I caught a guy stealing from my balcony with my own eyes, multiple times. They seemed not to care and didn't believe me. I confronted the guy myself after that. (This is where the different unit being a problem comes in). The original unit ROBIN promised us was a terrace level unit. (Main floor entry but balcony was second floor). This would not have happened if we could have just had the apartment we were promised. 4) Flooding in my bedroom. The building design was poor. Every time it rained, my carpet would flood. It took over a month for maintenance to fix the problem, dry my floor and get the smell out. First attempt was a floor fan and a dehumidifier. Brilliant. Second, they finally realized it was the building design that needed to be corrected which they did after I complained about getting sick due to mold in my room. They did not care I missed a couple of days of work due to their negligence. 5) I missed a round of golf with my father since their maintenance people screwed up our locks. They came and switched our locks out but didn't fix the outdoor closet where my golf clubs are. When I asked the apartment management to help me with the issue, it took them 3 days. This probably angered me more than anything. 6) A place that is closed on Sundays stills requires you to bring your rent check in on days it's closed. They didn't tell anyone they were open so good luck knowing what's going through their head. I came in the next day to pay and was given a $100 late fee. I pay on time every month and asked to waive the fee since there was a confusion but they did not budge. 7) After asking to talk to the manager about the $100 issue. ROBIN told me that ALLISON THE MANAGER was too busy and relayed the message about not waiving the $100 fine. ALLISON is just too busy for people. She couldn't talk to me because she was in the middle of a "time consuming task." said ROBIN. Shows how much they care. At least they have Food-Truck Friday!!! They bring in a food-truck with over priced food that sits at the front of the neighborhood one Friday per month. I guess that's what my $100 late fees are put towards. For all of the times they have made my life an inconvenience, don't even think about interrupting their busy lives. I give them 2 stars because of the potential this place could have if it weren't for the people running this place.
I have lived here for a year. We are moving to a house but I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone. Robin in the front office is super sweet and always willing to help. The only negative thing I could say would be my upstairs neighbor... but that's any apartment.
I have moved so many times. I picked this location because it was close to my office as well as the highway. The management company switched a few months after I moved in. I liked the old staff, though their way of dealing with maintenance issues wasn't great (I waited two weeks for a replacement washing machine before calling. They hadn't checked their online maintenance requests in weeks.) Since I've moved in, my gate code has only worked a total of 1 month of the 16+ months I've lived here. Any time I have guests over or order food delivery, I have to go through the front gate to collect my food or let people in. I was told the wrong mailbox, so I couldn't get mail for a few months. Any time I've called with a problem, I get treated as though I'm either being ridiculous or that I'm wasting the front desk's time. For example, I had wasps in my apartment last Nov. and Dec. I called repeatedly, to be told I was making it up since it was too cold for wasps. I've called about a roach problem. I've called repeatedly about my gate code. I've gone to the front office about my gate code multiple times. For the most part, no one picks up the phone and no one returns calls. I've gotten to the point where I just go to the front office for anything I need. Not that helps - their front office woman is every as bit of rude when I go in there. My current situation is her testily telling me repeatedly that no packages were delivered over the weekend. Turns out they were, but because of the current construction, someone else put them in their apartment-office. She didn't offer to check for me, just assumed that USPS was making it up. My package was exactly where USPS said it was. I'm being relocated for work, and needed proof of current living situation as well as something showing I've been a good, paying on time tenant. I'm moving to Brooklyn, and these are things they request up front. At first the front office lady flat out refused to help, but the current manager was able to get me something showing good standing. I shouldn't feel like I'm asking for the moon every time I have a question or make a request. I liked one person in the front office - I tried to talk to her whenever I came in. Her name was Sarah. I actually ended up signing a second year lease because the apartment is close to my office and my neighbors are quiet. But Sarah is no longer with the company - not that you can figure this out by emailing her or calling the front desk at first. It took me multiple calls to figure out she was gone, and they were really hesitant to give me anyone else's information. The maintenance staff (who, from what I've understand have all quit) are the only saving grace about this place. My ceiling fell back in February - a burst pipe two apartments above me - and while the front office wasn't taking calls or offering to put me somewhere else while the maintenance was being done (they turned off my stove and I had to call days later to figure out when it would be back on so I could eat). I ended up talking to the maintenance manager and getting my apartment sorted quickly and back to normal in about two weeks. They also came out on a Sunday in July when my air conditioner quit working. But I haven't had an issue since, so who knows if it's the same staff. TL;DR: I wouldn't recommend this apartment complex to anyone. I've lived in so many and have dealt with terrible staff, but the amount of apathy that rolls off the management is catching. The lack of information regarding the shooting that happened at the complex in September is appalling. I'm happy my days here are severely numbered.
The apartments are nice but the rental staff is horrible. They held my check for over a month because I wanted to pay a month in advance and when I asked them about it they could not find the payment. They are very unprofessional and very nasty. I would not recommend these apartments to anyone. Every time I have a maintenance request it takes a long time to get anything fixed as they always state it's a shortage of workers. You can never reach anyone at the rental office and they take forever to return messages. There was a chair with a wasp nest attached to it upstairs on the third floor near my apartments, not sure how it go there but there was no priority to have this removed when I have small children. The amount of money that you pay it's definitely not worth it. It's too many other nice apartments in the same area to settle. I thought because I was spending a good amount I was getting a great apartment, they sure fooled me!
MANAGEMENT IS HORRIBLE. They act like they care but have proven they don't. Terrible follow up and communication. They don't want to have to deal with things. Have lived here for a couple of years. Location is great. Why we have stayed. Apartments themselves are ok. Needs updated.
