At one time this was a great place to live.. I even gave them 5 stars but deleted it today to post this. With new management it has gone way down hill. There is never anyone in the office ever. They now close on the weekend so if you have to do anything you will need to take a day off. the people they are moving in to the apartments are not really the best neighbors. they lady that posted about the pot smoking, i live near her and my apartment smells daily of pot smoke. There was a complaint and the person in question banged on the entire building doors wanting to know who turned them in ..very aggressive. told the office and they said there is nothing they can do. I went to give notice, the office staff asked where i was moving to and started to bad mouth the property There is no parking. Someone has to be cooking drugs in one of the garages as it smells like chemicals late at night. There huge rats everywhere Homeless people sleeping in an RV in the back. This place has gone really down hill.
I stay on 3rd floor and this is mold on my ceiling I told maintenance they told me I have to put in a work order which I did, then come to find out we have a new manager of the property didn't get a welcome letter or her introducing herself. it has now been a week and all they keep doing is having maintenance wipe the mold, no pest control or moving me to another unit has happened I have been calling to follow up not the office. It's very unprofessional. the parking is ridiculous never parking. also, my washer stopped working I put in a work order during business hours of the office hours and was told by the manager that maintenance would fix it that day. I cam home a little after 6pm which the office closes at 6pm and the washer wasn't fixed, I didn't get a follow up call or anything. then maintenance finally came the next day saying my washer is fine, I went a whole weekend without a washer because they ended up finding out it needed a new part. The office team is very unprofessional they tell you different answers for questions you have seems no one there really knows the actual answers. I have contacted property management to file a complaint , but still haven't heard anything and the mold is still not taken care of. They take advantage of low income families one of the representatives hung up on me when I asked to speak to the property manager about my questions and concerns.
This place become a mess since the new management came aboard. My poor daughter the single mother has been fighting with management about her neighbor who has been smoking marijuana in the bathroom. My daughter complaint and was told that it is legal and there is nothing they can do about it. In January, she came home and her apartment had a chemical smell called the fire department and was told she cannot stay in the apartment because of the smell. Contact the manager and corporate office and was told that there is nothing they can do. She asked if she could break her lease and was told no. Now she is homeless with a child but still has to pay rent at a place she can't live at.
Silver Springs takes advantage of low income families. After you move out, the community director will get the bill from all vendors to clean and paint your apartment last minute and turn around and have you sign an agreement to pay for additional fees the apartment is generally responsible for. Don't sign it. It was our mistake to trust that they would charge us accordingly and with integrity for cleaning and painting fees. She charged us $455 to paint the entire apartment to get it ready in time for the next tenancy. She left my apartment vacant for 11 days before painting and had to hire three painters to hurry up and get the job done for the next tenancy. Mind you, we only lived there for a year to get back on our feet and paint usually has a two to five year shelf life. We never ever painted the unit when we lived there. Just normal wear and tear. Like hanging pictures on the wall. I have chosen to move forward to small claims court. We were a low income family who lived here. Upon move out, she took our entire deposit and charged us almost $700. You think this is an opportunity for you to get back on your feet and live in a community where management works with integrity. Be careful. They will shark you for every penny you have or don't have. Terrible management with no integrity. Disappointing that a company would take advantage of underprivileged families who are struggling to get on their feet and build a somewhat decent life for themselves. The families that live here are struggling enough as it is. American Property Management needs to reevaluate their companies core values.
I'm renting in silver spring apartment, and so far everything is ok, the place is always clean, my neighbor is friendly, and the place is quiet.
