Been here about a week now and scanned about 15 properties in the Plaza neighbourhood before choosing the Locarno. To begin with, the building is from the 1920s and has a lovely charm to it, standing right adjacent to Brush creek. The interiors are swanky and very clean and the lobby stands out when you first walk in (this was something that I found lacking in other properties in the area). As for the apartment itself, having moved from Toronto, I found it very spacious. There are no balconies but what you get in return is PLENTY of storage space, great interior furnishing - my unit has a separated shower to toilet as well, which in hindsight is convenient. The corridors on each floor are very well maintained aesthetically and each floor has 1 to 2 washer(s)/drier(s) - another great feature lacking in other properties. The location is prime. You're in Kansas City's best neighbourhood - The Plaza. The surrounds are beautiful, abundant with statues, fountains, a creek and a parkway along the creek, boulevard style. Nothing more you can ask for in terms of liveability. I'm currently parking on the street. The Locarno has limited parking but you can always purchase parking from Lanier Parking, who have garages all around the Plaza (my next step). The office staff are wonderful as well! All in all, I highly recommend The Locarno!
Great Building, the location is perfect !
It was such a blast living download, loved this building
I have lived at the Locarno since December. I will say I really love Estelle, who is who you talk to at the front office, she is helpful and gets the maintenance guy going very fast on any problems you have. A few downfalls: since it is an older building the apts are old too. We had a door fall off its hinge, always have sink clogging and smelling in the kitchen, etc... Closet is pretty small in the one bedroom, fire alarms go off from time to time because it is old as well, and the kitchen has no drawers, so I keep my cutlery in a jar for now. Good things: great location, have never had problems with parking, safety never seems like an issue because you have to be buzzed in and there is security in the front.
