These apartments use to be absolutely terrible before The Block got bought out by American College Campuses. However, the new ownership has turned things around. The customer service is phenomenal now and the new renovations are making it a much more enjoyable place to live. However, the interior lighting is poor (very dim) and the floors collect a lot of dust. On the bright side, The Block is one of the few apartments in West Campus that still allows people to split rooms. If you are looking to live in West Campus but not spend an excessive amount, The Block is a good option. However, there are nicer apartments for more money.
This place is very overpriced. I am usually not one to be critical, but they could easily make living here better. The apartments are dirty, tenants are very inconsiderate, parking garages are way too cramped, and the management just simply does not care. Do not live here if possible. This place is easily one of the worse places to live on West Campus.
I lived in the Block (25th East) for two years, from Fall 2013 to Spring 2015. Depending on which unit you get, it'll either be decent or bad. Either way, prepare yourself for the occasional broken elevator, the smelly hallways due to people leaving their trash (or worse) out, and (my personal favorite) the blaring fire alarms at 2 am. The last two are mostly the fault of other residents. Please don't be that resident. Wi-fi can get a bit slow. Use the cable when you can. All appliances that came with the unit worked. Toilets never clogged on us. Sometimes the water smells. Get a filter. If you need something fixed, the maintenance people are usually pretty quick on it. Management is actually pretty nice and understanding. Due to mishap, I got my car towed from one of the Block garages, although I had a parking tag (I wasn't contacted prior to or after the towing... I had to find out the hard way). However, the manager was able to get me a refund for the towing fee within a few days. Well, it could have been a lot worse. 4/5 for decent unit, convenience (After rolling out of bed, I can speed-walk to campus in 6 minutes? Sold.) and friendly management.
Do not move here my window has leaked every time it rains partially flooding my room! I have called 6 different times as of today and a person has been sent out once and did nothing to fix the problem. I continue to call in search of emergency maintenance and no one is ever working EVER! The last time I called to complain I was told to buy the calk and try to fix it I pay way to much money to have to fix my own window when it is there job! I'm so glad I leave this place soon I would definitely not renew my lease.
Horrible experience. I live at the block on 25th and Leon and it has to be the worst apartment I've ever lived in. Cheap routers that half of my roommates devices can't connect to, a management team that takes months go respond to service requests, and a weight room that is all but useless after having the free weights stolen from them and even the handles for the cable machines. SAVE YOURSELF! Don't lease with the block update: now my internet is not functioning update 2: yesterday a maintenance worker came to replace my lightbulb and did not properly put the ceramic cover back on. It fell and shattered on my coffee table while my roommates and I were watching TV. living at the block is the best!!! update 3: the ceramic cover has still not been replaced (one week) and now our fan has this awesome thing where it now has two settings; full light and full fan blast, or off. Sent in a maintenance request I should hear back within 6-8 weeks update 4: parking passes are $75 to replace apparently. Literally a piece of plastic. The Block >>>>>>>>>>>>
