Read all these reviews before you move in. This place is absolutely horrible. The office staff are the rudest, most unprofessional incompetent people you'll ever meet, they're simply useless to say the least. It took them 5 weeks to replace my non working bathroom outlet. I noticed it wasn't working the day I moved in and notified them, multiple emails were exchanged with Marci ensuring that it would be fixed "right away". Apparently "right away" means 5 weeks.... Still to this day there is a mysterious charge of $255 on my account that I refuse and will not pay. None of the staff could tell me what it was even from.. again, the most disorganized, blah blah blah people you'll ever meet. The gym equipment is new but extremely dirty. It never gets cleaned. The treadmills have soooo much dirt and dust on them it's disgusting. I'm pretty sure that's against a health code. The actual apartments are crap(ily) remodeled. All the doors have patches from holes. The kitchen cabinets are painted brown and the faces are just redone. Everyone I have small talk with around the campus HATES this place.
I had the worst experience here. We were supposed to move in September 15th, 2014. When we arrived to move in, our apartment was not finished and the carpets were absolutely disgusting. I had told the property manager (Tim) about this and he said that he would get it cleaned...a week later the stains reappeared leaving me again with a dirty carpet. I told him again and he said that he would not charge me for a cleaning at my move out, yet when I went to move out he was no longer with the company. I now have this huge carpet cleaning bill that I am trying to get rid of. They make promises that they do not keep, the apartments are dirty and not taken care of, things fall apart. The place that you take your trash to overflows with garbage and looks so gross. Absolute worst experience of my life, I now work for a higher end apartment community and now that I know the ins and outs I would never ever treat my residents like I was treated. Horrible!!! There are spiders EVERYWHERE in your apartment and worse under the covered parking on your cars, where you walk. Nothing is maintained to look and feel nice and safe!
BEWARE OF SIGNING THE LEASE!!! I lost my job and was forced to relocate for a new job. That's when I learned to break my lease I OWE THEM UPFRONT 6 MONTHS RENT IN CASH to do so. It barely takes them that long to fix something there :(( Sadder yet, the agent in the rudest way...not at all understanding what I'm going through..told me that these thousands of dollars that I have to cough up was a special deal...that its a savings...lol. Not a clue!
I moved in in 2012 while still on active duty. The apartments were the westridges and the staff was fantastic and easy to work with. Then came the change. JRK properties took control and decided to rape everyone's rent here. I have outdated appliances but get charged for an upgraded price. When it was the Westridge I received a courtesy notice my lease was ending. JRK decided not to do that and charge 1900.00 dollars for me to move out when my contract ends. I've requested to speak with Tim the manager and he has avoided me at every opportunity. He has his leasing agents cordon off all issues that confront him. Soldier's and Airmen don't fall victim to the "affordable" price. Nearly every door jam is falling off and all of the closets are broken. This place literally just fell apart. The maintenence is horrible and you'll soon find out that your getting taken advantage of. Move to dupont area or lacy the schools are nicer and the quality of life is better.
Lived there for 8 years. Under Equity management it was ok and the manager was competent and office staff at least had a clue and got things done. Yes there were some break ins , both car and apartment. The last year or so it started to go down hill, kids throwing rocks at apartment windows, cars and tormenting animals. I can understand why Equity sold it, vacancy rate was increasing. The apartments need some serious updating, the installed microwave was made in 96. When JRK or whatever their name is took over, things hit bottom. Our rent increase was ridiculous, the staff at the office had no clue as they were not from washington and tried to make the case that the increase and their rents were normal for the area, umm BS! They made these claims about updating the apartments and the amenities, according to my old neighbor who still lives there her rent went way up (20%), they only thing the remodeled was the main office building. They now nickel and dime you to death and charge for every little thing. You also can't smoke (you really shouldn't anyway) anywhere but out in the parking lot. Some residents have a heard certain management personnel make derogatory statements against service members and vets, something along the lines that they should all be locked up because they are crazy. They even had my car towed away while i was in Afghanistan, no warning no nothing, wife was surprised to say the least when she woke up and it was gone. She didn't get any help from the office and they claimed they had no idea and that the security guard did it (this was under the new management). Don't rent from here, its a last resort if you ask me. Oh and while its in University place school district its actually inside Tacoma city lines so your emergency services have to come from Tacoma (granted not that far but still takes a little longer).
