I broke my lease 2 months early as I purchased a house and opted for the accelerated rent, ie: paying the rent until the unit is rented again or the time due is up. They told me they would try and rent it again. They didn't, and I was informed that someone was moving in 1 day after the end of the lease!! I'm paying for what I signed for, fine, but don't blatantly lie to your tenants, that is disrespectful and insulting. I will never trust AVA for anything ever again!
My wife and I were residents of Avalon "Ava" Belltown for 3 years. We finally moved out and it couldn't have come a moment too soon. First the positives: The apartments themselves are very comfortable. While a bit pricey, they are in very nice condition at move in. We rarely heard our neighbors and we had a unit facing clay, which meant the street traffic noise was manageable. The community had a decently accessorized weight room, but few other amenities. There is a common area on the first floor, but it was very rare to see anyone there. The community does not host or sponsor any events, so it's not uncommon to constantly see complete strangers in the hall. There is also a pretty constant string of car break ins. The quality of staff at the complex has been on a gradual decline over the last year. By the time we moved out, the community manager was extremely rude and unhelpful to my wife and I during the entire move out process. We had to reach out to her multiple times regarding move out logistics and payment options. At one point, we had signed a contract saying that our move out fees would be do at the start of the following month, and after she signed it, demanded we payed then. It took her calling up the chain of command to finally let us go by the contract she had just had us sign. If you decide this is the community for you, be aware of their move out policies. The community has a policy that all payments are subject to being turned over to collections 15 days from the date of billing. This includes move out fees and remaining bills. We had a small charge remaining from utilities (not billed until they end of the month). We received a bill on July 11th from AVA that had been alleged billed July 3rd. After a few discussions with Avalon about incorrect and extraneous move out charges, we submitted payment. The next day, we received a call from their "Customer Care" department saying we were at risk of having our account sent to collections if we did not pay immediately over the phone. They informed us they were doing us a courtesy by calling us first. After I explained to the agent that we hadn't received the bill until 8 days after it was generated, he told me it was due at the moment it was billed. Overall, I am extremely unimpressed with their business practices. If you're looking for a place to live in Belltown, you can do a lot better than this.
Great location. Very few ameneties
Avalon Belltown has all these cameras, and security devices. but we recently just had a prowler break into and loot several cars IN THE GARAGE making off with stereos and ipods and the like.
