I'd like to start off by saying that the folks in the front office are very nice and incredibly helpful. They helped us through the difficult situation and were very reasonable and accommodating. ROACHES! Me and my roommates moved in and got settled without any issues, tentatively signing the lease after reading other reviews about roaches. We have a friend who lives in another building who said that he has never had a problem, so we went for it because of the price and location. We only stayed 6-8 weeks because of the roach infestation. I would turn on the kitchen light in the morning to make coffee, and one or two roaches would scatter. We found them in our cupboards, microwave, coffee maker, bedroom, and bathroom. Completely unacceptable. When reaching for a bag of chips, I shouldn't have to stare at a roach the size of my thumb nail. Castle Bluff has exterminators that come every month, just to do check ups. We were told that they would pull all of our appliances out and treat the entire apartment. One of my roommates was home when they showed up, and the exterminator barely did anything. It seems to me that this has probably been a problem for a while and the exterminating company has just given up. The entire building I was in is infested, and there is at least another one or two buildings as well because the office staff told me that the exterminators were treating 20-something apartments one day. This review is getting long, and I think you get the point. The apartment itself was relatively clean, but the rest of the building felt gross. Noise was not an issue on the third floor, aside from the train tracks that are nearby. If you decide to look into these apartments, don't trust what the front office says about bugs. We were guaranteed it would not be a problem but I feel like that was just to get us to sign a lease. They will comfort you by saying that an exterminator treats the entire building, or that they have NEVER EVER heard of roaches being a problem (that's what they told me). Once we brought these issues to the office we were able to break our lease and received our full security deposit, but the hassle and expense of moving twice in 8 weeks was not pleasant.
I've lived here for almost 8 years and really like it. The managers are good people, friendly, professional and care about people. It's generally quiet and I've rarely experienced loud music or noise problems from neighbors, but in the few cases I have, the management would take care of it. The apartments are surrounded by large evergreen trees and a wooded area nearby. It’s only a mile or so from Woodland Mall, so shopping is easy to get to.
I have lived her for a month now and really enjoy it. It's very close to all the stores and restaurants on 28th street yet surprisingly quiet. Office staff is friendly. I also love the walkin closet and additional storage closets in the hallway. I have ceiling fans in all my rooms which is a huge plus. My favorite thing is the gas stove! the gas is included in my rent so I can cook as much as I want. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
The young women in the leasing office is very rude and could benifit greatly from a class in costumer service. She is often rude and very confrontational. When she is wrong (which is often) she is incapable of admiting she was wrong...let alone an apology.....the grounds are somewhat maintained (if you call planting flowers and then not watering them maintained?) The common area's (such as hallways, entrances and laundry rooms) are rarely cleaned....I place air freshrners up in the hall to combat the smell from a smelly neighbors apartment....there has been spilled flour in the stairwell for over 2 weeks now...and forget about getting maintince to fix anything....rather they give excusses for delays and jerry rig appliences to limp along till the next break down......what amenities are offered can best be discribed as....broke down and out dated....I put less money in a slot machine with more reward then the over priced and unkept washing machines and dryers...(I use the term dryer loosely).....All in all I would not recommend this place to anyone....I am ashamed to tell people I live here....only 4 mo to go on lease and I am outta here!!!
My husband and I moved here in August 2007. The price is what really drew us in initially -- we got one of the 1000 square foot castle style apartments for only $600/month (there was a promotion going on at the time). I LOVE the layout and size of the place, it's warm, clean, and comfy, neighbors and staff alike are generally friendly and helpful, location is great. Yes, you will encounter the occasional sketchy individual, domestic shouting match (I hear my neighbors going at it once in a while), etc., but when you live in an apartment complex (especially one that is not super expensive), that's part of the package. We've had a handful of items inexplicably go missing out of our kitchen (nothing valuable) that we know we used after we moved... not sure what to make of that, there might be a reasonable explanation that doesn't involve theft. Anyway, I do really like this place overall and would recommend it to anyone!
