I've lived downtown for about 4 years now at a few different places and by far, my experience here with management and security at University Studios have been the most professional and immediate. Communication with staff is always accessible when I need help and staff has been nothing less than friendly towards myself and my neighbors. Katie is constantly putting her residents first and works hard to make sure our experience here is positive and comfortable. She cooperates with us and her efforts are genuine when addressing our concerns and needs. Katie does her job well and goes above and beyond to keep her property running smoothly. As a young female who lives by herself, I've never felt unsafe during my stay here and the security at University definitely has an effective presence. Officer Mark is someone I trust and he genuinely cares about the safety of the residents here. Mark is always on top of things and he is very much respected and valued here in our community.
This building has a lot potential given it's close proximity to the downtown area, but don't be fooled by this glitz. Aesthetically, the building is very well-kept by the two maintenance works, who work very diligently to ensure the building is clean and presentable. The actual building has several issues, as people have pointed out below. The elevators are constantly breaking down and there was a period in the spring when all three were not functioning. This is problematic given that this building is seven stories tall, so if you decide on leasing, I strongly suggest you rent a unit in the first couple of floors. Like others have mentioned, most of the machines in the laundry room are also frequently out-of-order, and you either lose money or are left with wet clothes since the dryers tend to be consistently broken or people leave their clothes all day long in the ones that do work. The ventilation system is pretty non-existent throughout the building. There is no ventilation in each unit's bathrooms and also in the building's hallways, which is part of the reason that there is a strong malodor throughout the building. The building has it's own fitness center, which is great since you will not need to buy a gym membership, but there is no ventilation system here either, therefore working out can be hazardous. There was a long pest problem (i.e., bed bugs, roaches and spiders) that was still ongoing when i left. In terms of security, doors are locked (you need key access) and the gate sometimes work, which makes you feel somewhat okay. The security guards are definitely not up to par. The weekend security guards tend to not last very long, they either stop showing up or seem to be terminated. The security guard that is there during the week has been there the longest, which is surprising given how unprofessional, vulgar and incompetent he is. He is constantly sitting in the main lounge area or hanging out in other parts of the building socializing instead of sitting behind the desk watching the cameras like he is getting paid to do. There have been several safety incidents in and around the building and the fact that security is unreliable is very problematic. Overall, management is friendly and polite but they should definitely be more consistent in following through with the policies they emplace and actually take the concerns of their residents seriously. The company should read these comments and take them into consideration by making the appropriate changes. They have lost me and other residents because of their inability to provide adequate services in return for the excessive amount they require residents to pay for such a small space.
I have lived at University Studios since May of 2015. I also had many ups and downs living here. I'll start with the negative: The rent is very expensive for such small spaces. There is no reason for a 300 sq. foot apartment to be $680 a month. Also, the elevators are always breaking, the ventilation in the building isn't the greatest, the opening AND closing gates are always broken and/or screeching loud, (and why is it $50 to just park your car here?) the carpet is like the outdoor, uncomfortable type and is dirty, the internet used to be horrible, but has gotten better after the property manager, Katie, worked really hard to get it fixed, the laundry room machines are no good, they are always broken and eat your quarters, the mini refrigerators seems to have only one setting, which is either having it freeze your food or melt your ice cream, and the fact the thermostats are broken is a tad frustrating. The last things that really gets to me (and is a poor reflection of how the business is ran) are the owners of this building. As I walked to get my mail one day, the owner passed by. Didn't say one word to me, didn't ask how things were going here, didn't even acknowledge me or do anything that a real owner should ask their residents. All I'm saying is that I hope these issues change in the near future. Okay, now on to the positive. I have had the privilege to speak to Katie on a couple of occasions to get packages and such. She is not only a FULL-time property manager, but also a FULL-time student at CSU! I told her there's no way I could pull that off! She works really hard to keep this place in the best shape as she possibly can. She is always there for her residents and resolves issues in a timely manner. You can also tell she's a hard worker simply by the fact she gets here early and stays late all the while going to school. My friend, whom does not even live here, got his vehicle broken into, and Katie did everything she could to catch this guy but also get his items back! She didn't even have to do that. The property is very lucky to have her. She is a sweetheart, indeed! Good luck to all who choose University Studios as their new or current home.
This review is intended to sincerely reflect my experience living at University Studios in hopes to inform prospective residents. I did not have a good experience living here. The ventilation system is horrible. The maintence guys were amazing and very helpful. However, the management was very unprofessional and careless. The Internet never works and as a student that is unfair and the biggest inconvience ever. We were without Internet access (which they advertise as free and included aka we pay for in rent) for 7 months. The security guard was very unprofessional. He was rarely at his desk and has personal relationships with residents. To add, he hangs out in their rooms and goes to bars to drink with them. He gossips and tells all of the residents business. When I first moved there he would come in the conference room where I was studying or in the workout room just to talk about people. It has been bought to management attention but they continue to keep him on board because they gossip and share information with each other as well. When I first moved in my carpet was dirty I asked for them to clean it and they denied my request. Along with that , there is always a bad smell in the halls no matter how often maintenance clean up (Do to poor ventilation). I did not feel secure there and it is not a place I suggest you sign over a year lease. It seems like a great deal for students because it's in a very convenient area. However living there with all its inconvenience ( cafe food is terrible, elevator is always broke, the smell, can't breathe in room, dim dark lights, very small place, no oven, mini fridge, unprofessional staff, management that tells you ANY just to pacify you for the moment) made me realize that I could of had a better experience from another apartment that wasn't so money hungry. This is my experience, my truth. Best wishes if you still chose to live there.
I've been a resident for 16 months and it has been a absolute pleasure living here. The office manager Katie makes it a absolute pleasure. It is very convenient for people who go to Cleveland state and anyone who wants to have access to Cleveland. The dining experience is outstanding. Building is well maintained, bug free, and very clean. I feel safe being in a gated facility, with outstanding security supervision.
