Hello, People of the Internet!
Come live with us in our beautiful, newly rehabbed home in Chicago's up-and-coming East Garfield Park neighborhood. The house has fresh paint, dark hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. The common spaces are fully furnished so you don't have to worry about bringing any furniture. The house has central heat and air as well as an energy-efficient washer/dryer you can use anytime. Your bedroom is rather spacious and the basement is yours to store anything you don't have space for in your bedroom.
We are in the heart of East Garfield Park, close to several transportation options. Two of us don't own a car and rely entirely on our bikes and public transportation to get around, which is easy to do from our house. We are three blocks north of the Kedzie Green line stop, two blocks south of the Kedzie Metra station, and less than one block from the nearest 52 Kedzie and 82 Kimball/Homan stops. You can leave your bike in the basement. If you have a car, you can have the spot out back for $25/month or there is always plenty of on-street parking right in front of the house. I should also mention we are just a few blocks from the gorgeous Garfield Park Conservatory.
About us (there's three of us):
I am a high school English teacher in CPS here on the west side, so I'm usually gone from dawn to dusk each weekday. Most evenings I'm out of the house at a political or social justice or recreational event, but when I'm home, I like to relax on the couch with a good book (I just finished Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow" and have SO MANY THOUGHTS).
Eric works odd hours at his A/V job so he is just as likely to be up at 4 a.m. as 4 p.m. His love for Three Floyd's is matched only by his love for yelling at his computer at an oddly high pitch when he's locked in a heated do-or-die moment on some computer game whose name I can't pretend even pretend to learn.
Joseph is a bartender who can hook you up with the occasional free drinks (if you're into that kind of thing) at his swanky bar in the West Loop. He's also a stand-up comedian who just moved to town to break into Chicago's world-class comedy scene.
We are looking for a roommate in his or her 20s or 30s of any gender, sexuality, race or ethnicity. Our roommate must be fully employed, respectful around the house, *very* clean and considerate of others. We are looking for a roommate who does not own any pets or smoke cigarettes and can move in September 1.
About the neighborhood:
East Garfield Park is a racially and economically diverse neighborhood, so if you're not cool with that, we're not cool with you.
About the dollar bills/paperwork:
This lease starts September 1 and goes until June 30, 2019. If you see the place and meet us and we're all still interested, you will complete an application that includes a background check and credit check. Once you've been approved, you will pay a refundable $600 security deposit, plus first month's rent. Your security deposit will be refunded in full when you move out, assuming the room is still in good condition and you are not behind on your rent. All utilities, including satellite TV, Internet, gas, electric, heat, water, common toiletries (toilet paper, hand soap, etc.) and trash/recycling cost a flat $100 each month.
