No longer managed by Archstone as of September 1, 2011. The new management is horrible. A very unorganized transition. Rent payment system is very inconvenient. I feel like I'm back in the 90's writing checks again. Washing machines and dryers are in the basement and are always breaking down. Been here 2 1/2 years. CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE!! Especially since I just saw two cockroaches in less than a month. The only good things about this complex is the location and the pool.
I have lived at the Lofts 590 for 2 years now and am planning on signing my lease for a third year. As with any building - there are pros and cons...nothing is perfect, people! Pros: Great location - you're walking distance from Pentagon City/Crystal City metro, Costco, Pentagon City mall, a community park (soccer fields, etc), Pentagon Row bars/restaurants/shops, and a post office. Modern, loft-look to the apartments - most of them come with great islands in the kitchen and gas stoves so if you cook a lot, its a huge plus. In my experience, never had any problems with bugs or mice. The people are nice - many of my neighbors have dogs (a great excuse to start conversation) and are really sociable people. The front desk staff/management is also attentive and very nice. I've always had maintenence issues resolved quickly. Cons: Yes, I agree with the other posters that there is more noise/vibration issues here than I've experienced elsewhere. I think it might have something to do with the way the building was constructed. The first person who lived above me was very quiet, the second was much louder. I asked management to help and they bought him a rug for his living room which helped muffle his footsteps. However, I still hear him from time to time. I want to note that the noise issues are in my experience just vertical - you cannot hear the people next to you. (I've asked my neighbors!) Also, I occasionally hear people talking outside on the sidewalk as they pass under my apartment.. this is a little weird. The building has very few ammenities. The gym is pretty pathetic, its tiny and only has a few machines and invariably one is always broken. We do have access to the Crystal Towers gym, but its also relatively small and the equipment is old. There is no "community" or lounge space and a very small business center. The pool, which we again share with Crystal Towers, is nice but very crowded on weekends - you have to wait for a chair unless you get there early! One final "con" is that most people have dogs. If you don't like dogs or don't want dogs around you, I'd suggest looking somewhere else.
