Don't think of moving here. Management/Leasing office/Maintenance guys will not address safety or tenant concerns. The lease states no pets some people have pets. Safety is a concern as you see cops making rounds every other day and someone gets arrested. It can make you uncomfortable. They make sure to deduct money from your safety deposit when you leave by giving lame reasons. Worst rental community you can come across. They always want you to write to them or fax them as it discourages people to reach out to them. In this age they don't believe in emails and phone calls. This is worst place you can live in. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN 0 STARS FOR EVERYTHING IF THERE WAS AN OPTION AS THEY DON'T QUALIFY TO GET RATING IN FIRST PLACE. HORRIBLE PLACE SO SAVE YOURSELF AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
The business office here is set in their outdated ways. This is the only large complex I have ever heard of that does not invoice their rent, or provide online payment methods. You simply have to mail a check to a location each month with no reminder or option or ACH or web payments. When this was brought up to the office the response was "we have 2,000 tenants, and we send late reminders".... wouldn't that be more of a reason to use an online service? Not if you are banking on charging a 25$ late fee each time a payment is late apparently. *Otherwise the price for size of apartment is good. *Poor outside lighting leading to some sketchy characters hanging out in the parking lots - cat-calling women at night. But security is constantly driving around, so I guess that must help with the overall crime. *The maintenance crew spends so much time trimming the hedges and mowing the lawn, but does not do any pickup of litter. Notices will be placed on your door if you have items on your front porch stating they must be moved or they will be thrown out.( without any detail on what items they are referring to, and no one in the office can answer this). But at the same time the workers who updated the empty apartment next to mine, and the roof left tons of discarded plastic, roofing, lunch bags, screws, and other junk around after they left. The priorities are very skewed at this place when it comes to keeping it nice looking. * Lastly i've witnessed a maintenance crew member shut kittens under the building, leaving the mom cat to cry outside the entrance. This is completely inhumane behavior and I have no doubt they never check before closing these entrances. Leaving poor animals to starve to death. With such a large complex, they should be actively encouraging TNR ( trap, neuter, return) which is a proven method to curb the feral cat populations, allowing humane population control.
First of all, living in Winding Wood Apartments is like living in Jail. All the neighbors get in one's business. Everybody wants to know where you work, what do you do for a living, if possible they check your background and want to know even the color of underwear one is wearing. The apartments are so small that there is really no oxygen to breath. The people that work for this complex think they own this place and so tenants are treated as third class citizens. People are always watching what time you go to work, what time you get up, what time you eat, what time you farted..... overall, this place is a shithole!
I currently live here and have since April, 2014. I honestly have no complaints. I had an issue with my AC, they came within in 24hrs and though it required 2 visits it was fixed. There is always parking. You can leave things outside and they won't get stolen. No one is loud. There aren't cops everywhere its Winding Wood security, like how dumb do you have to be to be upset that they have people just driving around making sure everything is okay.
Winding Wood's major problem isn't dealing with landlords. It is the CRIME. It is the only neighborhood in Sayreville I would be afraid to live in. Before you consider moving to the area, take a drive through the area and have a good look. Ask yourself if you would feel safe living in Winding Woods.
