I'm writing on behalf of my mom, who has lived at Sharlands Terrace Apartments for nearly 3 years and just loves it there. Here's why: The location is great, near to shopping and every kind of service and the views from her apartment south towards the mountains are just beautiful. The apartment itself is in top notch condition, with everything clean and functioning perfectly before she moved in and continuing to this day. The staff is very, very nice and very attentive to any requests. Here are some examples: When my mom first moved in, the mail slot where she would pick up her mail near the office was uncomfortably high for her to reach, so the office staff switched it to a lower location. When my mom had major surgery last fall, she was away from her place for some time, but everything in the apartment was fine, and the office staff saved her mail securely inside the main office. The maintenance staff has installed grab bars in the shower very quickly and neatly when my mom returned to her place, and keeps the buildings and grounds beautifully maintained. I've visited on several occasions and always been amazed at how quiet and well maintained this complex is, especially considering how large it is. Whenever I visit, it seems there is always some sort of upkeep going on, like painting landscaping. At Christmas, the entrance gates and the office complex are decorated beautifully, which is so nice to drive home to. I would definitely recommend this as a safe, secure, well managed and well maintained complex.
My wife and I have lived here for almost a year and have been very happy we chose this apartment complex. The rent is the most competitive of all the places we looked at and the apartment is perfect. We chose an open floor plan "den" style apartment. It is a 2 bedroom but what would be the second bedroom is instead a den which completely opens up into the living room. The ladies working in the office are genuinely friendly and helpful. Every.Single.Time. They receive my packages for me if I am not at home and even call me to make sure I know they have a package of mine. They have movies and books to borrow and a computer/printer for internet. The complex is extremely close to the 80 which made my Truckee commute much faster everyday. It is also within stone's throw of several grocery stores and restaurants. The maverick gas station is right next door and usually has the more competitive gas prices in reno. We are about to move to a different state but after staying in so many crappy places in Reno, I decided to at least share my experience to help someone else with their choice. *edit* I just read the other two reviews. The first person just seems like a silly individual but I don't know what their situation was. The second one is 3 years old and does not represent the experience I have had. I have not had any problems at all with my or my wife's cars and have not seen any evidence of any crime at all. When I drive in at night, sometimes I see the security guy patrolling so it seems like a secure place. The gates close at 6pm every night and you can't enter after that unless you have the swipe card. I think it would be hard to break into cars with so many people around. I have not seen any mold. The washer and dryer work great and seem to be close to new. The heat is awesome and works without problem. **I guess if any - the few issues I have noted would be the thermostat is not programmable, the shelves on the shower insert are not perfectly level which means the shampoo bottles/soap fall frequently(bought shower caddy), fridge gets loud at times with a random metal bang noise, the bathroom fans are very loud and the dishwasher can be fairly loud also.
You need something fixed they are right there in a flash. Ladies in the office are always so friendly and they keep the apartments looking nice and presentable. Best apartments I have ever lived at by far untill you get your end of lease reminder. Every time you sign a new lease they raise your rent!!! Don't move here unless you plan on having your rent raised every year.
By far the worst place I have ever lived. Management there has no concept that the people live there are living there....that it is their home. For instance when they sealed the parking lot they gave 3 days notice on small green pieces of paper taped to poles, they said it would take 2 days, it ended up being closer to 7, they towed (at owners expense) at least 8 cars. There was mold all over the place, the window sill was so bad that when I tried to clean it off the dry wall came apt in chunks. The walls and 1st floor ceiling are paper thin, you can literally hear a man urinate in the 3 adjacent apartments. My Honda Scooter was almost stolen, thankfully my wife was awake to scare the would be thieves off. They were sued by the Federal government United States v. Sharlands Terrace for discrimination against disabled persons. This suit was brought about mostly because of alleged retaliatory actions they took against a residence that had complained that the staff was parking in handicap parking spots. They also retaliated against me when I had question them about their claim of not being able to enter my apartment to retro fit as part of the Federal Lawsuit. They then "served" me with an unsigned eviction notice that was not even obtained at the local court house. Stay away from this place unless it is the only place in town. I would give 5 negative stars if it was possible. Upon finally being able to leave they claimed they had to replace the entire carpet but provided no evidence of it being destroyed, thankfully I took pictures right before I left because I knew they would pull that type of shenanigans. Now I will probably have to take them to court to get my deposit back.
just moved recently to reno area and found the sharlands terrace apartments within 3 months my vehicle had been broken into twice My heaters barely work so i bought space heaters, we have mold issues and our washer just took a crap. pricing was thought to be good during move but now i know why, dont get stuck in a lease.
