Way back when we all were apartment hunting we were ecstatic to find affordability and the location within The Lakes Apartments. Sadly living here was a preview of what hell is like. Let me be so kind to write out a nice organized list for you. 1. Residents have their dogs without a leash outside. 2.You will likely have evidence of that same dog on your Toms or Jordans. 3.Occasionally you might be attacked by a dog while checking your mail. 4. Some weekends you might hear a smack down going on next door. 5. The Wake County Police Department will always be on site. 6. The ducks on the property will enjoy getting in front of your car :).
This place sucks big time. The only thing I like here is the fact that these apartments come cable ready and that's it. My electricity bill was extremely high because of poor insulation and they will not fix it. Also every year my A/C breaks when it is time to use it. Nosey neighbors looking like they wanted to rob you. Police out here every week due to disturbances. My home girl even told me she saw someone hanging from a second floor apartment (trying to steal someone's Marijuana) I move out next month and I am effin ready to go. ASAP!!!! My real rating would be no stars but you can't do less than one.
Let me start by saying that the staff of the Lakes are some of the friendliest people I've come across in Raleigh, but the buildings are dilapidated and run down. The appliances are painfully old. The walls are eerily thin, and far too prone to minor damages. My porch had to be completely re-done--AT MY REQUEST. The wood had been rotting for some time, to the point where half of a plank was torn to bits. Somehow, the staff overlooked this for weeks at a time, and only fixed the issue once I called. The tennis court is in terrible condition, overrun with weeds and other plants. The gym is a joke. There are holes in the wall, and the equipment is well, past it's prime. The gym showers are disgusting and rarely maintained, and the dog park has a clay pit towards the middle that becomes a nuisance to avoid whenever present. It's a shame that an apartment complex in such a wonderful location with such a beautiful entrance is home to some of the dingiest buildings.
Living at The Lakes Apartments is basically camping 2.0. You get all of the bugs, lack of insulation, and abundant ambient noise pollution of camping, with the crime and nosy neighbors that only the lower income housing projects can provide. When you submit a request for maintenance or pest control, the office is not communicative or helpful in any meaningful way, resulting in a lot of shrugs.
I'm not one to trash a company, however, this place is terrible. My mother got beat up in the parking lot while taking the trash out, the person underneath us got shot when his apartment was being broken into, there's a constant smell of weed, loud music is always blaring, and plenty of yelling. My mother and I never experienced any bugs, but we did experience rude neighbors. Your choice.
