My fiance and I have lived here for almost a year now, and we are absolutely in love with our little home! We are renting a 1 bedroom with a den, and it's a huge amount of space, especially with just two people. Jason, the Property Manager, is our next door neighbor, and he does an amazing job! Him and his staff are always friendly with us and are always willing to answer any questions we might have. We've only had 2 maintenance requests, and both of them were handled very promptly and discreetly. The property is beautifully maintained, and even in the winter there is always salt on the sidewalks to melt the ice, and the snow is shoveled out of our way! The location is amazing-right down the street from the Kroger and a gas station, not even a 15 minute drive to Greenwood's mall, and a nice 30 minute drive (if there's heavy traffic) to downtown Indianapolis. You don't even really hear the highway from my unit, but I can't speak for the ones closer to 37 (there is a sound barrier wall though). The only things I'm not a fan of is they don't allow flags of any kind to be hung outside your apartment (we wanted to mount an American flag but were told it would mean that they would have to allow any kind of flag so to eliminate the issue they don't allow any). Also, you can smoke in your apartment, which is bad for us because we can smell the cigarette smoke from the people down the hall outside our door (it stinks!). But, you can completely make it your own, as they allow you to change anything that's not permanent (flooring, appliances) but you can paint and they have overhead lighting spots already installed where you can pick your own lighting. Other than that, we are still just as in love as we were when we moved in. We are very lucky we call this place home!
I did not have a good experience living in Aspen Lakes. The apartments are TERRIBLY inefficient! Our electric bill for a 2 bedroom apartment was in excess of $300 for the entire winter, compared to $40-$60 in the summer. I moved into a 3 bedroom home with double the space and still have not seen my bill reach this amount. Even with our bill being high, my bedroom on average was 50 degrees throughout the winter (I bought a thermometer to keep track)! So I was paying $300+ a month and getting sick because my room was so cold! We contacted the office and they did send out service who gave us some pointers but still no change in our bill. The complex did nothing further to compensate for the inefficiency. Fast forward, we move out of our apartment (I could not endure another freezing, expensive, winter). A year and a half after we move out, I receive a notice from a collection agency stating that I have an outstanding balance with the complex. NO ONE contacted me! So I call the office and am told that the bill was sent to my roommate ONE time 1.5 years ago (she said she never received it). When I asked why they did not contact the other person on the lease (mind you, my checks were the ONLY ones used to pay the rent for the year we lived there so it makes no sense that they contacted her anyway) or even try to call one of us, they told me they were not obligated to do so. We BOTH filled out exit forms, so they had BOTH of our contact information, but rather than allowing me the opportunity to pay the bill by making ANY attempt to contact me, I now have a late/credit collections payment on my credit history. Then the woman had the nerve to tell me I should have called her to see if I owed them any money after I was already told at checkout that I would not be receiving my security deposit back (full disclosure: we did have damage to our carpet but we were specifically told that our security deposit would be used/withheld to cover it)! So in summary, I would not recommend anyone live here. I do not feel I got my money's worth while living in this extremely inefficient apartment. I also think their business practices are UNACCEPTABLE, I'm sure not a single person in that office would appreciate having their accounts handled in the way they handled mine.
This apartment complex is not only horribly constructed, but they've contracted their parking out to a shotty towing company that will randomly tow resident's cars out of the parking lot in the middle of the night regardless of the fact that there are NO visitor parking spaces available and it's 11pm at night and I am driving a rental car. This complex was also foreclosed on half way through it's construction, so the structures were left half built to rot for a year before they were completed. I live in a 3rd floor apartment and can still hear and feel everything my neighbors do as well as literally hear the wind blow at night through my walls. My floors shake when people run up and down the stairs. I am leaving in 3 weeks and would NOT recommend this community.
I would recommend this property to absolutely anyone! We lived at Aspen Lakes for three years and would not have hesitated to remain there for many more. One of the better properties/businesses when comparing to all of the other local properties that are governed by larger management groups similar to Aspen Lakes. The property is beautiful, appealing year-round and the location is fantastic. The best quality is the staff, the entire staff. They give their best to help every person that visits Aspen Lakes and they genuinely care about their residents. The atmosphere and environment really isn’t what you would expect after visiting a handful of local properties… Aspen Lakes is incredibly welcoming, friendly, and fun. They will always stop what they are doing to help and even go out of their way to help. They are incredibly respectful, they take the time to get to know you and invest in you, and they really want you to enjoy living there. The staff prioritize the safety and security of their residents and their property. They don’t simply put a bandage over something, but instead make changes within their power and use their resources to fix or reduce future issues. As said before, our family spent 3 years at this property and would have loved to spend many more! I’m confident that anyone can have the same great experience there!
If your black or hispanic I would highly recommend not even trying to apply here cause all they will do is discriminate against you. and oh yeah take your money for the application fee. I met all the application qualifications but according to them I didn't. (false). they don't care about customer service or keeping their word when they say something. The manager Jason is not helpful at all, and was screaming at me when I was upset without trying to help the situation at all. YOU REGRET MOVING HERE.
