We were counting the weeks since our second month at Greendale. You can read a better review on YELP...but they are losing good tenant's due to their hostile and abusive manager Mary Martin. So glad I no longer have to deal with her or ACCO. They are not consumer friendly either. You will have difficulty speaking to a live person from corporate. I never was able to in the entire year we were with them.
I’m writing to explain why I am unhappy with my experience at Greendale. Greendale’s management (Acco), especially the resident manager, Mary Martin, is difficult and unpleasant to deal with. There are also other problems, primarily the noise. My apartment was not available for inspection before I signed my lease, so Mary Martin promised me that if I found any problems when I moved in they would be fixed, if they were fixable. Two of the problems I found when I moved in were that (1) the shower head extends down too far and so is lower than the top of my head (I am only 5’6”), and (2) there is too large a gap below the door of the storage unit that is located behind my parking spot, so when they blow the leaves and dirt out of the parking stalls, it goes underneath the door into the storage unit. Unfortunately, Mary has refused to fix either of these problems. When I politely reviewed them with her, she said that the shower issue was “subjective.” Really? It’s measurable that I am taller than the shower head, and measurability is pretty much a definition of objectivity. In any event, when she made her commitment to fix things she didn’t limit it to things that aren’t “subjective.” When I asked for the situation to be fixed as she had promised, she told me I would have to buy the replacement shower head myself. (I suspect I’m not the first person to raise this issue, since she was very quick to diagram out the problem on a piece of paper.) When I asked her with whom I could speak about this at the management company, she was very condescending (“Let me explain to you how this works,” in an unpleasant tone) and refused to give me any name. Nearly a week went by, and Mary didn’t even have the few small things she didn’t object to fixed. When I followed up with her about it, she first tried to avoid answering me. I persisted and two of the issues (a broken wand on the blinds and the shower curtain rod being placed so far into the tub area that the shower curtain stuck to your body when you showered) were finally fixed. On the issues she refused to fix, I called the number I found for Acco and was referred to Sherry Hattan, but she won’t even return my phone calls. I realize that I could pay to fix these problems myself, but I wasn’t the one who promised to fix them, was I? If they won’t keep their commitment to fix things that are not that expensive (it would probably cost less than $40), I can only imagine how difficult it would be to get them to fix something major. There are also numerous noise problems. The heating system in my unit is quite loud, and wakes me up when it kicks in during the night, even when I shut the bedroom door. The walls between the apartments seem to quite thin, and this makes the units noisy. For example, I can hear music and coughing that sound like they are right next to me when I am in bed; it’s not that my neighbor is particularly loud, it’s just that the walls don’t keep normal noise out. About once a week I am awakened early in the morning by the sound of a dump truck emptying the big trash bins behind my unit.
Great location, excellent grounds upkeep, nice apartments, helpful staff, and nice amenities. I just moved in, so I'll update this when the rent hikes occur or when I experience some other problems, but I'm optimistic!
Beautiful landscaping and apartments, quiet neighborhood, great positioning in Mountain View, and decent prices make Greendale a great placd to live!
I really like this place as I had done a lot of looking around some of the surrounding cities of Sunnyvale and Cupertino. I think there are a lot of great apartments and I chose the one that worked best for me and this was it. Been happy here now for a while.
