Pros: -Great location: near normandale, southdale, easy access to the city -Very affordable for this area -Safe area (its right behind kinder care) - Big, spacious pool (gets to 9 feet deep) - bigger living room than expected - I like the "wood" floors. Haha. - Management is very communicative - Maintenance is friendly and very helpful and want to make sure your place is indeed working properly. - Accepts dogs and cats (I like seeing all the cats in the windows) - There's a pop machine outside the office by the pool....and its only 85 cents a can. (It has pepsi and coke, but make sure you put your coins in tails facing up.. otherwise it won't take your money.) Cons: -If you get a first floor apartment, its inevitable that you will hear your upstair neighbors because the floors are very squeaky and loud. -Hard to find parking spots late at night (you might have to park at a different building complex) -Some units aren't updated (i.e. no dishwasher, microwave) -First floor units get really cold in the winter -Not all outlets work -If you have sprint as a phone provider, good luck. (Can you hear me now?) - If you need any maintenance help, it takes a while for them to get it done. -Can't even really call the workout room a "gym". It needs some work. And I find it odd that you load your laundry card in the workout room. -Laundry is expensive.
I've been living at Willows on France for a few months, and am very happy with my choice. First of all, it's in a great location near Southdale Center, and VERY easy to get onto 494, even 35W. The parking garage fee is affordable, but it may be pointless to get a garage if you live in certain buildings at Willows that aren't near a garage (this was the case with mine. It will always have to be outside, even mid-winter. The walk to the garage is too far). Also, they have updated apartments with beautiful kitchen spaces (granite countertops, stainless steel new appliances, & dishwasher in many units). My unit has wood (or fake wood...) floors that looks great. I live on the third floor and its very quiet, though the walls are not soundproof. Overall the price is affordable and cheaper than many other similar apartments in the area and surrounding cities (trust me - I did my research!). Maintenance is speedy and helpful. The dishwasher was leaking and they actually replaced it with another very nice one. CONS: The workout room needs serious help. It needs to be cleaned and the equipment is broken and dirty. The exteriors of the buildings are sorely outdated and need to be updated asap. They haven't been updated since the building was built. The parking lot needs to be fixed, lots of potholes. Only one A/C unit per apartment, which might mean a hot apartment in the summer....
Awesome place to live! I have lived here for almost 5 years and love it! The staff is very friendly and maintenance is always very prompt with fixing anything. The area is very quiet and safe feeling. Buildings are well taken care of by the care takers and new things are always coming! I recently just got brand new granite counter tops and they are amazing! I would definitely recommend Willows on France to anyone looking for a great home to live in!
I will start on a positive note. This place does have a nice manager, maintenance are nice, and it's a great location. Okay, now on the negative side, the parking is a nightmare, and if it rains it floods the back parking lot so have fun swimming to your car. The hot water comes and goes. You can hear when someone else is showering b/c the pipes make this loud ringing sound. When I first moved in, my apartment stunk so bad!!! We tried opening the windows, candles, sprays, nada. Gave me migraines and couldn't even live there for two weeks until they got new carpet, and do you think I got any money back, nope. In addition, my toilet didn't work, and the caulking in my shower came off the first time I used it. The buildings are old. The one I live in was built in the 1960's. The paint on the walls comes off so easily and looks like crap. There's not underground parking. No disposal, no trash chute, the laundry machines are expensive, they don't take packages so have fun missing them and having to haul A$$ to the post office or UPS. The intercom sucks and cuts out all the time! The windows are terrible and you can hear everything from outside. I seriously could go on and on...but I'll end this and just say, save yourself the agony and misery and just find a better place to live.
This place is a train wreck. The hot water only works some of the time and the building I live in stinks like curry and rotten fish ALL THE TIME. Management will pay plenty of lip service to your concerns but will do nothing to resolve the situation, be it serious or not. I'm actually ashamed of myself for living here. I can't wait for my lease to expire so I can run, Forrest, run. If you decide to rent here, make sure to make them waive the application fee. In addition, you can bargain with them for the monthly rent. They already know what you're going to go through and will happily reduce rent if you just ask.
