We moved into The Dakota last month, our experience has been far from pleasant. On the move in date we had our truck all packed and ready to move in. Upon getting our keys and paying our deposit we were told they only except a certified cashiers check. We had to drive our truck filled with all our stuff to the nearest bank before we could move in. We got our keys only to find that the apartment was completely filthy. We are still finding dog hairs from the previous tenant, I don't think the apartment was cleaned at all. But they did repaint, there was dried paint all over the counter tops in the kitchen and bathroom and even on the toilet. We literally had to clean the place before we could even live in it. If you are looking for luxury you won't find it here. The office staff is very rude not helpful.
I wish I could give a rating less than one star for my experience at the Dakota's. I have been a very good tenant for 3 years and have had nothing but issues. During my time, I have had approximately 7 neighbors above me with each one being worse than the other. I have dealt with knock down drag out fights above my head, cops at their door, drugs, and constant partying with the staff at Dakota not caring one bit. I am a very quiet and keep to myself person and do not like to complain but have found myself having to seek their help more than once. They have done nothing to rectify any situation I have brought to their attention nor have they given any inclination that they care. My most recent experience has left me completely and totally disgusted. While on vacation my water heater broke and flooded my apartment. They sent maintenance out to replace it immediately which I was impressed! I asked to be contacted during the day since I was leaving and had to go to work, but was not contacted. I came home to find an industrial fan on my soaked, mildewed and rotting carpet with all my windows and sliding glass door open. (Yes, they left everything open while unattended so anybody could come in to my apartment and take what they wish). I was contacted later in the day to be informed that I had a new water heater and that my carpets would be cleaned Monday (This was Friday) With water damage like that I expected to have my carpets replaced but no I was told they I needed to live in the swamp like conditions for 4 days until they would be shampooed. As if this wasn't bad enough, Sunday (2 days after the water heater was installed) it broke. I had to call maintenance again since I had ZERO hot water. Fernando came out immediately to let me know a piece was missing and it couldn't be replaced until Tuesday. So now I'm in disgusting, foul living conditions and I have no hot water for my young child and myself. Fernando did a great job apologizing and keeping me informed. I asked on 2 separate conversations for the manager, Christina to please call me and she NEVER did! I had someone from the office call me later to let me know I could use the model apartment for hot water purposes and that she would have maintenance drop off a key. She NEVER had anyone drop off a key and closed up the office for the day without getting me anything. I had to call the maintenance person's personal cell phone and again, Fernando helped me. It is completely ridiculous that the people in charge of the building and responsible for getting things done and taking care of tenants do nothing of that nature. The only person helpful was the only person that could not help the situation. I am disgusted as to how the staff treats their loyal tenants and that I never received a phone call from management. I am appalled that my child and I have had to live in unlivable conditions for days. DO NOT RENT THESE APARTMENTS. You will regret it.
We have lived here for a year now and overall its been great. The apartment is laid out well and there is a very large storage closet which fits everything allowing us to save $ on renting a storage unit. We have great neighbors which is wonderful considering we have a 4 yr old who tends to jump around a lot.One negative aspect is the kitchen is tiny! The drawers are too narrow to even fit a silverware tray so I have to keep the silverware where my food is stored. Most of my dishes and larger appliances ( food processor etc.) have to be kept in the storage closet. One other con is that people seem to have a hard time cleaning up after their pets. We have 2 dogs and I have found the doggie stations are always stocked w/ poop bags so obviously people are just lazy. Most of the leasing staff is friendly w/ the exception of Caitlyn who is very rude. If you plan on renting here I would advise using Cristina or Janet as your consultant.
At first glance, this is a nice place to live but I would look elsewhere. The staff is friendly but not helpful. I tried to use the outdoor fire pit (which I haven't seen work since I've lived here) and there where broken bottles all around it. I went to the office to ask if someone could clean the glass up but got no help. The maintenance guy was actually sitting in the office and the office personnel looked at him and said " I'm not sure who I should get to take care of that". Two weeks later, the glass is still there! I have lived in other apartments and understand there will be noise at times but this apartment is very loud. I can hear the people above us going about their everyday tasks, walking across the floor, talking to each other, their dog running around. It seems like the walls are are paper thin.
I only spent 9 months at living here at The Dakota. During my short lease, I never had any issues with maintenance, management, parking, etc. The apartment was clean and well maintained. Notices of upcoming work on the parking lots and various other events were always posted with ample time to prepare. Despite being near Cross Dr. I never noticed any real road noise. Adjacent apartments were always quite which I credit to decent insulation between units. I never took advantage of any of the amenities, so I can't speak to what they were really like. Commute to downtown wasn't as great as I was hoping. Wadsworth is a real pain during rush hour. However, I think if I had to return to an apartment I would definitely consider The Dakota again.
