The day I moved out of my apartment in Brookchester is marked as one of the happiest day of my life! When I moved out I spend 100 bucks to cleaning supplies and cleaned the shit out of this apartment. It was 1000 times cleaner than when I moved in and they still charged me 900 bucks at the end. So I got 195 bucks back from my security apartment (out of $ 1095). Absolutely disgusting. The worst part is the heat which you have 100% no control over. Even throughout the winter I had to run the A/C 24/7 and when the A/C broke in December they told me they won’t fix any A/C’s until May when it is summer. I mean are you kidding me??!! After the first 3 weeks we had mushrooms growing out of the walls in the bedroom, and yes you read it right…mushrooms!!! It was because the A/C was leaking and the wall was soaked, and of course the heater was blocking it so we didn’t catch it until we saw the mushrooms. If you live downstairs you will hear every single step of the people upstairs and there is just nothing you can do about it. Parking spaces are hard to get after 8pm. We also had pretty bad experience with maintenance which eventually shows up after the 3rd call. Still, this guy was the only one from this whole crew I would consider helpful and kind. Staff is only nice when you sign up the contract, after that it is so over with that. I would never ever in a million years live in Brookchester apartments again. Rather pay 100 bucks more, there is plenty of alternatives. Life should be worth more than wasting it there!!!
I moved into Brookchester 2 months ago, but so far so good !! I read some online reviews claiming there were insect problems, I haven't seen evidence of any insects whatsoever. Management has been a pleasure to deal with at every turn. I was a little nervous before I moved in because of those online reviews, I'm sure glad I didn't listen to them. The apartment was clean when I moved in. No issues there. Parking is tough, but I rent a garage space so I don't have to deal with it. Walkways are quickly shoveled clear of snow.
5 star for the room. The room refurnished, very nice with wood floor. There are some problems on pest control, 2 inches cockroaches appear after I moved in one week! Last time I saw cockroaches when I lived in TX 5 years ago. My previous experience told me the maintenance people cant do something for insects since they cant get rid of cockroaches from root resource. For cockroaches, they wont survive if no water supply in several days. Stop cooking and began to clean water after I used sink. I guessed the cockroaches visit my home via water/heater plumber. I bought some quick-patch hole repair from Lowes, and fill all cracks and holes. Several giant cockroaches died in one week. Right now, I lived more than 2 months, no new insects. For lease office people, they are a bit of inpatient when you inquiry something. Totally rating is neither good nor bad, 3 stars.
I have been living here with my wife for about 2 years now. The construction being very old, you cannot expect a very good living quality. One good thing is when you call Maintenance, they are responsive to your problem. Our initial 6 months of stay were OK until Brookchester allowed a renter in the apartment above us with a dog. I do not know how senseless some people be, the renter leaves her dog to run (or even dance probably??) on the wooden floor. The horrible sound at any random time of the day has irritated us at the brink of our patience. We have complained to Brookchester management regarding this many times but the management instruction does not seem to be effective enough for this renter as she seems to just ignore the fact that those sounds are pretty much intolerable for people staying beneath. One more point to note - in the lease agreement, it is written that 70% carpet is required for the upstairs apartment. Hearing the noises above our apartment, I really doubt whether there is 1% carpet laid on the floor by the renter. I was thinking how poor and non-thoughtful a community management can be to allow a renter with a big dog at upstairs apartment and also be ineffective to control the renter even after complaining many time about the irritating noise. I could not move out of this apartment because my job priority but now me and my wife have decided that we have had enough of it. We are going to move out of this apartment as soon as it would be feasible for us because no human being can stay inside the apartment like this. It has become a haunted unlivable apartment. I would discourage all my friends, colleagues and anyone seeking for a residence in New Milford to consider Brookchester apartment as an option. If you really want to take it because it is cheaper than any other nearby community, I would ask everyone to think and weigh between "A few bucks more" and "Peace of life".
My experience living here has been great. I have a modern apartment wth beautiful hardwood floors. I can walk to shopping and to the train station. My neighbors are friendly and I feel safe living here. This place is well managed, they're on top of everything. I am proud to call Brookchester Apartments my home.
