Casa De Warren in Amarillo is honestly one of the worst places you could ever live. Multiple cars were broken into during my stay there, including my own. Most tenants smoke constantly and my apartment always smelled like cigarettes no matter what I did. My apartment needed cleaning and other maintenance work the day I arrived. Management is slow and hopelessly nonchalant in the face of any complaints or requests. Some peoples' smoke detectors were found to be missing batteries. The buildings are poorly constructed; one tenant discovered wild mushrooms growing through her floorboards upon arrival. The furniture is cheap; a chair broke under me while I was sitting on it. Don't pay for a garage before you see it, they are basically just storage units large enough for a small car. Trash is constantly littered everywhere in the parking lot. Don’t expect to receive your full safety deposit when you leave, either. I left my studio much cleaner than it was when I arrived (I spent a good two to three days cleaning and disinfecting when I first got there) and yet an $85 “cleaning fee” was subtracted from my security deposit check when it was sent by mail after I moved out. Warren are scam artists and will take any chance they can to extract profit from their tenants. I will add that it is nice that they allow you to live there on a month-to-month basis and that the utilities are included in rent, but this is not enough to warrant more than a one-star rating. Unless you are staying there short-term (a few weeks or so) in order to find a more permanent housing option, I do not recommend Casa De Warren. A 10 week stay was more than enough for me.
It's difficult to even find a place to start describing the horrors of living at Casa de Warren. Management had been informed of the day I planned to move-in, and yet I waited upwards of six hours to be able to see my apartment. Once I finally was able to walk in, I was greeted with an uncleaned apartment smelling of years-old cigarettes and gas. (The gas smell was coming from my stove, which continually leaked gas regardless of what I did. I submitted a work request on my second day, but nothing ever came of it for the ten weeks I was there.) Management is hopelessly unhelpful at all times, and try their best to extract as much money as possible from those who live at the complex, while providing as little help or guidance as they can. The parking lots are constantly littered with trash and never cleaned, and are also dangerous (two tenants had their cars broken into while I stayed here). The exterior of the complex is generally dirty, the apartments are even worse, and the management puts no effort into providing even a halfway decent living experience. I felt dirty and unsafe every single day of my ten weeks here. I have been living in apartments for years, and nothing has ever come close to Casa de Warren. No month-to-month lease deal could ever make up for the absolute worst living experience of my life. Avoid Casa de Warren if at all possible; any other apartment complex, or even hotel, is preferable.
Unless this is your only option. I've lived in more comfortable holes in the ground.
Can't beat the price when you get free utilities and furnished apartments. Definitely the best apartment deal I've found so far.
