My family and I have been here for two years and at first it seemed great! The staff was friendly and our apartment was spacious so we had no complaints. A few months went by and we started seeing and having major problems. The grounds were never kept clean. Trash and dog poop all over the place. You also pay $9.99 for a trash fee every month (not included in rent) to use a trash compactor that is always filthy and miles away from most apartments. Because it's so far away, most people leave their trash bags outside of their front doors which adds to the problem. The pool is usually always dirty and it seems like the other amenities are always breaking our out of service. The maintenance staff is extremely undermanned. There are only two main people that do work for the whole complex. We have had an ongoing maintenance issue for over a month now that doesn't look like it will be getting fixed anytime soon. Our lease is up very soon (thank god) and we've basically been told that this problem will not be fixed until we are gone. Once management knows you're leaving, good lick getting anything accomplished. They will not answer any questions you have or help you with anything. With the exception of what seems to be the new manager, the staff is very unqualified. They don't have any knowledge about how the property is supposed to run on a daily basis. It's extremely frustrating when you are paying for "luxury apartments" but get the customer service of a seedy motel. I could probably go on for pages about everything that we've had to deal with with this complex. Bottom line is don't move here. It's not worth the daily headaches and frustration with management and maintenance. Fenwyck Manor right down the road is a much better option.
I rented from here for a year and a few days. I've seen three different groups of employees. Now that it's time for me to receive my security deposit back (after 3 people told me it was $99) the transaction history doesn't show my deposit so I cannot receive my money back. Not to mention all the times the trash compactor was locked, forcing others to leave their trash piled around it. The poor grounds literally had to clean all of that up almost weekly. Then the car wash was secured for half the year. Good thing we're not paying more money for a smaller apartment to be in a nice apartment complex... Way to go, guys. Situational update: after speaking to 4 different people who claimed that I wasn't getting my refund but the district manager just called and said I will receive my security deposit back.
Okay... So There's only one trash compactor and most of the time it's empty but people continue to drop off their bags along the side of it rather than open the door and just dump it. I just don't get that? Office staff is professional but I don't spend much time there. The grounds are safe. The maintenance staff could be more efficient and parking is a pain :( but overall a good experience here.
The only good thing about these apartments is the vicinity to my son's school. They misplaced my payment several times. It took weeks to get anything fixed. Some things were never fixed. I took cold showers for a month. I just recently received a letter in the mail stating I owed them money that I paid after being sent to get the exact amount for a money order because they wouldn't take a money order that was an overpayment even if less than a dollar. I would never recommend these apartments to anyone. I would actually discourage people from moving here.
I was excited to move into this "Luxurious Apartment" complex, coming from many states away and relocating for the first time to VA. The management office showed me all these wonderful amenities, several of which turned out to be eventually out of commission, the place looked charming and well situated and I fell for it. I didn't bother to do my research... In less then a year, the management team has changed 4 times! Is that a red flag enough for you? Coming from up north, I was disappointed to find out the pool opened late for "repairs" and had a reduced season, even though the weather down here is always hot. Then the grounds were unkempt. The grounds is what makes this place interesting, so you can only imagine the impact. The first 4 months, we had maintenance in our unit at least once a month as there was always something failing. The new manager tried very hard to change things around and I will give her credit. Unfortunately, Upper Management (The Owners of the property) were never helpful and she remained alone struggling to change things around. Eventually, she too had enough and moved on. Words of Warning: Read your Lease agreement VERY CAREFULLY; The penalties for breaking the lease are thousands of dollars and you must provide 2 months notice! Negotiate the penalties out or down. Additionally, the rent and renewal of the lease ARE NEGOTIABLE! Last but not least, the local post office is NOTORIOUS for loosing mail and packages as well as extreme delivery time. I leave disappointed with the owners and their lack of support to their staff, in a rent that far exceeds the value promised, in finding out the hard way that only half of the amenities actually work, in the terms of the lease and in the waste and greed that governs what could be such a promising real estate.
