The Lorenzo is ridiculous. Seriously, the fact that these sort of amenities are available to anyone, let alone college students, is amazing. I don't really understand why anyone would even consider giving this place less than 5 stars but, you know, USC = University of Spoiled Children (Fight on!). Anyway, you won't really believe everything this place has until you visit but some examples are: tanning beds, 2 full size basketball courts (Clippers and Lakes center court logos), full gym that also has rock climbing and saunas, an arcade, a 100-seat cinema with HDMI input (you can play anything), 5 pools (including an indoor one and a rooftop pool). It's also in the middle of LA so the on-demand economy is in full swing with things like Amazon Prime Now (same-day delivery), Instacart (grocery delivery), cheap Uber (free for USC students after 7pm) and Minibar (alcohol delivery) operating at the touch of an iPhone. This place has its own Metro station and its 1 stop from the Staples Center! The craziest thing is that the students here don't seem to care that much about all this stuff so usually the amenities are going unused and you can do things like reserve the whole movie theatre for private use whenever you want. Yeah.
I have never written a review but Lorenzo has frustrated me beyond belief. I lived at Lorenzo last year and renewed my lease because honestly if you have no problems with Lorenzo this is once of the coolest places to live. Last year when I lived here I was continuously frustrated by the the fact that there were not enough employees to handle the amount of residents at Lorenzo and that majority of the employees were students who acted unprofessionally. Choosing to chat and hang out in the package room while residents waited to be helped. This year with even more residents I hope they have hired some new staff! On the bright side maintenance has always been quick to resolve my issues. In addition, while trying to call resident services is a joke, e-mailing them always works best for me. Angela, who I e-mail has always been quick to e-mail me back. Now for the bad. My main issues with Lorenzo has more to do with their policies then the people who work here. While I admit that there are a lot of issues with the staff I understand that this is a new building and some companies are slower to get their stuff together than others. When I renewed my lease at Lorenzo they offered free guest parking. This was important for me and one of the main reasons I considered looking at Lorenzo. Well they didn't have enough and residents complained. Lorenzo promised to create more guest parking. With this in mind I resigned my lease. Well after signing my lease the guest parking finished and not only is it no longer free but its no longer guest parking. What Lorenzo did instead of making more space for guests, was they finished the commercial parking lot (even tho there are no shops downstairs yet) and took away the guest parking. Now they direct guests to the commercial lot and make profits off them. Due to Lorenzo's location I think asking guest to park on the street (which could only be 23rd street) is really unsafe. Another policy that I was not a fan of took place this summer (2015). When you sign a lease at Lorenzo you get a free parking spot. I had already signed my parking lease addendum and was all set with my paperwork. I get an e-mail from Lorenzo stating that due to the high demand they were asking all residents to re-sign the addendum in two days or forfeit their parking spots. Not only was this annoying but Lorenzo added a ton of new policies to the addendum that I felt I was coerced into signing. My reasoning was that I had a lease at Lorenzo that they would hold me to and I needed the parking spot. They then held my spot hostage unless I signed their new lease with all the new terms. While I thought some of the terms were rather unfair my bigger issue was with how the new addendum was forced upon us. Last year Lorenzo had constant complaints that the package system was slow and that the line to get a package took forever. This was because there would be 1-2 people working the package center and often I would see employees chatting in the back while "looking" for a package. At all the dorms which have fewer residents than the Lorenzo there are 4-5 people for the package center. To solve this there is now a locker system to get your packages. Its actually is pretty cool and works well. My issue with it is that after 7 days Lorenzo will charge you $5/ a day for everyday your package sits there. I never agreed to this policy in my lease. Well 9 days after move in my internet stops working and asks me to reregister my devices. In order to reregister you must agree to the new terms and conditions, one of them being the new package terms. Better yet, if any of Lorenzo's messages to you fails to be received, even if its Lorenzo's fault, its still YOUR fault. Much like the parking addendum from the summer I felt that Lorenzo coerced everyone into signing these new terms by holding the internet hostage. In sum Lorenzo takes advantage of the fact that primarily students live here and that they can get away with a lot of stuff adults wouldn't put up with. This place is beautiful but it will seriously bite you if your not careful.
I am very please with Lorenzo. I read all these reviews before i moved in here, i actually confronted the sales person as to why i should move in here given that everyone has had such bad experiences. She said there is truth to some of it, but thats when it was under other management. There is some things that i do not like for example the resident hot line, i dont think the staff that runs it takes their job serious, or there is not enough staff. Its all a matter of hiring more people to be able to patiently handle all ridiculous and serious problems. There is a lot of vanity absorbed girls and self absorbed dudes that act snobby and entitled but over all i think if you are here to have a good time and chill you will. People just gotta take things kess serious and be tolerant and patient... Well thats not gonna happen but hey... There is always gonna be people who say " oh i hate it here" bla bla bla nothing is good enough for them. Those are just ungrateful people. Anyway, they could have been a bit more organized with the move in, i got an email sayin i had some roomates and then i get here and its different roomates... And a different apartment 😂 So that part was a bit annoying, and having to wait in line for a long time tooo for my keys. I get it its 4000 people moving in all in one day but if you are expecting so many people then hire more people to get it done! I heard of some peope having issues that their rooms werent ready, Im only giving this place 5 stars because overall its really nice, you get what you pay for and my sales associte was very honest with me. Thank you Lorenzo! Please just be organized with your shit! Hire me, i can make a plan for you!
Terrible management, the staff has little clue of what's actually going on, and everything is always broken. Plus, they tried to slap an $800 damages fee on me after a two month sublease for damages caused by my roommates.
Well, the Lorenzo looks great on the outside: Beautiful building, gorgeous amenities, goodies galore. This is how they lure you in. Take a tour, and it's presented to you like Pleasure Island. HOWEVER, there is more to a good living situation than amenities! Management is ready to help you sign a lease very quickly; however, when it comes to being helpful, forget it. The only people who actually answer their phones are in the Leasing Department. Parking is a nightmare: They don't have parking spaces for each bed, figuring a certain percentage of residents will not bring their car. Well, this is SoCal, where nearly everyone drives. Be ready to have other people park in your spot on a regular basis. When you park in someone else's spot because yours is taken, they can have you towed with no phone call, no warning. Who the hell wants to make a trip to the office at 2am to report someone in their spot, then go back down to their spot to wait for security to get there and call a service to tow the offender (if you report it.) Ridiculous. AND, if you want internet, you'd better bring your own. DO NOT COUNT on theirs. They are very eager to take your money, but not so eager to accommodate their residents in any way. These are glorified dorms, but without USC's oversight. Additionally, because of fair housing laws, you don't have to be a student to be a resident; anyone can rent there. Be aware of these facts before deciding to rent at the Lorenzo.
