So, Partner and I thought this was a great place for us, thank lord, I found out how they really are, The Manager of this place will be nice to you until you confront her about thing she promise and bed bugs, when I confronted her about it , she was rude stated that I was the one that had them, when there is clearly past reviews with people stated that they had problem with that them, if you are talking to the other lady that works there, the manager will be always interrupting, she promise me a second floor apt, and mention it was going to be remodel from kitchen cabinets stove fridge, carpet and vinyl when I ask if the apt was going to have that she stated she never mention that and I agree to move to third floor, when I never agree, also when I put my application she said rent with everything included was going to be 845, then she change to 895, Apartment are big, not going to lie but I don't want to risk it, and get bed bugs which she denied no to have at the moment or before, when I asked for my deposit back she said she wont give it back, yes I started showing attitude until she agree to give it back cause according to her I was being rude, think about moving here honestly!

This property was the worst experience yet. Pictures can be deceiving when they are taken of a property brand new. Take the time to drive by and get out to look at this place. It's not what it seems from what you see online. Something that's not stated in the lease and will never be corrected after multiple attempts talking to the management would be the fact that all the tenants heat and cool the main hall corridor. Odd numbers heat/cool the front. Even numbers heat/cool the back. The apartments smell of mold from bad water spills that were never taken care of by maintenance. The washer/dryer were always dirty and were starting to break down due to lack of maintenance. Management created a distorted and often uncomfortable atmosphere throughout the entire process of either vacating, getting assistance from them or evacuating the apartments. They also had a tendency to deny the tenants if they disagree with something rather than discussing it and taking into consideration what the tenant has in concern. The entire year that we lived in these apartments we continuously had health problems. The balcony had moss growing on it and one side was drooping from lack of maintenance to it as well. We feared standing on it thinking it may clapse at some point. The wood was rotting. The apartment is built like a maze, everything is closed off from each other and it makes getting together with family or friends very difficult. Although the kitchen is a good size, the cabinet space is limited and the dishwasher doesn't work. You must clean the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher in order for it to do anything. This was even after they replaced ours with a brand new one. When they came to replace it, the maintenance men tracked mud into the house and didn't apologize or help clean up their mess before they left. Children can't play outside without getting dog feces on their shoes. The management fails to enforce the rules on the tenants to clean up after their pets. The pool, although meant to be private, has become public and is a greenish color as they don't balance out the chemicals. It also smells like a sewer and not worth swimming in. Management failed to replace our carpet before allowing us to move in, so when we moved in there were multiple stains on the carpet we had to deal with. When we evacuated the apartment, they wanted to charge us to replace the carpet as they stated there were too many stains to clean. However we mentioned that those stains were already there and they denied it and are still going to charge us for stains someone else left. Disappointed isn't even the word I can express for the amount of dissatisfaction I have for this place. I hope this review helps you in finding a place that's worth your time, take the time out to really look because Washington heights(despite the buildings are old) took better care of their tenants and the place. If there was a way to give a negative rating on here it would be a -10 rather than a 1. Wish you all luck and happiness for future apartment living. Have a good day.

Not a very good experience. Stephane was quite dismissive and the lady sitting next to her was too busy complaining about some "fat hispanic guy" who apparently likes to break stuff. Was filling the application form and they wanted my wife's SSN. Since she is not eligible for one, I told them that. If their behaviour was curt earlier, it became downright racist after that. We were asked questions on whether we had documentation or not, and if we were in the country illegally! Wow, there are legal visitors in the US who don't get SSNs but the Colonial Village management did not seem to get that distinction. I wish I had read earlier reviews about this place, before wasting my time here.

These apartments are older compared to a lot in West Des Moines. I think the rent is too expensive for the quality of the apartments. They allow dogs, which is great, but don't enforce the picking up of waste. No one seemed to pick up any waste whatsoever. Its quite disgusting. There are a lot of children in these apartments and not much noise barrier from one apartment to the next. I did have to call maintenance a couple of times with the dishwasher and garbage disposal. They responded fairly quickly. One complaint about the washers and dryers is that they have the high efficiency washers, but they never get cleaned with the HE cleaner. They smell horrid. Also, since they are older, the cable/internet hook ups are not ideal. Ours is threaded through a hall closet. I love the location. I work not too far away, and its close to restaurants and the mall, grocery stores and the interstate. The main reason we are moving is due to the high rent. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this complex to anyone, but if asked, I would say its not a terrible place to live.

My brother, boyfriend and I were really excited to move into this place and enjoy living in West Des Moines. At first glance, the apartments seem pretty nice inside, the pool is a plus and the area seems pretty safe and quiet. After living there for a few months we could not wait to move. We got bed bugs...TWICE. We had to throw out our bed and have our place fumigated. Before i knew why I had all of these welts over my body and my boyfriends body, I racked up almost 1k in doctor bills trying to figure out what it was and turned out it was bed bugs. I never received a reimbursement for the bills, my bed or that month rent free. I feel like there should have been some compensation for the dirtyness and hell I had to go through..not to mention twice. When the company fumigated, they stained up our carpet and the heat turned the walls black and we requested for the carpets to be cleaned and the walls to be repainted....took them 6 months to come clean the carpets and walls were never repainted. Although, the ladies at the front desk are nice, it is IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone at anytime. Not once did they answer the phone, takes a week to get an email reply and they are never in their office during office hours. We started getting mold in our bathroom and had to clean it myself per could not reach anyone. There was never ANY parking whatso ever. People would hang outisde in the parking lot to all hours of the night with their music blaring in their cars, grilling out the back of their trucks. We moved out in August and could not be happier. I would defintely not recommend this place. We were not the only ones to get bed bugs. The people fumigating were their on a weekly basis treating other apartments. We would have left sooner, but did not want to risk hurting our renting credit and get stuck with fees for breaking the lease. I am now left with a huge medical bill due to them and scars on my arms from the bug bites. We never did receive our deposit back and at this rate are not expecting it. Still considering taking them to small claims court. DO NOT RENT HERE.
