My husband and I resided at 377 E 33rd apt. 17J NYC, NY 10016, and we had to move out on March 17th 2014 for the reason that the community didn't follow through the contract, Avalon Bay breached the contract, it failed to provide us, its residents, with the service and conditions we were guaranteed when we signed the contract. The main issues are the following: There were a few pests (cockroaches) incidents in our apartment. The community lost our two packages. We had a proof confirmation, emails, and tracking order that were given to the community manager, and still nothing happened. We received emails that the packages were delivered to concierge but we never received them. The manager kept asking for tracking #, which she already received from us trying to take her time, and she kept denying that the packages got lost in the building. Most importantly, safety is our number one priority when we choose a place to live. Before we signed the contract in September we were assured by the management that this place is very safe and secure. Unfortunately, my husband and I didn't feel so. My husband travels a lot for business, so I would be alone a lot of times, and we need to feel secure in the building we live. However, when I would go to the gym, there were many people from outside. You could clearly see people changing, work out, and then leaving. The building does not have any system of making entrance to the gym more secure and only for residents. Everyone could walk in the building, work out, and leave. One time, my husband followed a guy from the gym to the elevator, went down to the 1st floor, and saw him leaving. On our request to the management to take care of this problem, we were told that they can't do anything unless they see these people in person walking in and out of the gym. Moreover, Ginger requested me to actually show her, bring the person to her, so she can take an action. Are you kidding me? The office closes at 6 p.m., and we go to the gym around 8-9 p.m. How is this possible and most importantly, this is not my responsibility to do. I am not a security, nor management, nor concierge. It is their job to make the community safe and secure. It's a shame and unacceptable that you pay so much for rent, and get such a low and unprofessional service. Following the gym, concierge staff wasn't fulfilling it's functions. Not only our packages were lost, but they also didn't care who is coming in and out the building. I had my own sister and friends coming and they never bothered to ask who are they, and where were they going. So basically, anyone could walk in, rape or rob someone and walk out. Concierge was always listening to loud music, radio channel, and they were rude to me couple of times. Moreover, sometimes, there was even no one at the entrance. Sometimes, the maintenance personal will be instead of them, but how is it possible. How can you trust maintenance personal to check who is coming in the building? This is not what we agreed on and paid $3,445/month. As a result of all these mentioned above issues, and as Avalon bay breached its contract, we were forced to move out on March 17th. We first wanted to move out later, and gave a 30- days notice, but while all these things keep happening and no one was taking any action to resolve this, we were tired and decided to move out. Thus, manager knew that we were moving out soon. After we moved out we tried and kept calling for Supervisor, Director in NYC, left messages, and no one bothered to call back. This just shows the real Avalon Bay's mission towards their customers! Outrageously, after clearly breaching the contract with us, the Customer Care of Avalon is holding our deposit and demanding us to pay more. If you find a different building, go with that one. Ignore this community at any means! Read reviews of other people about Avalon Bay to assure my experience, which turned out to be the worst experience I have ever had with apartments.
