I have been living at The Met for three years and I love it. I love my apartment. I have a one bedroom in the smaller building off Hope. I really like the high ceilings. It makes me feel like I am not in a standard small apartment. Everyone here has been very accommodating. If I have a maintenance request it's usually fixed within a day or two. I read a lot of complaints that people made and some seem a little overboard to me. Not everything will be perfect all the time. My fridge broke and they replaced it with a brand new stainless steel fridge and I didn't bother them to replace the food. I don't let little things in life bother me too much or I would probably have gone crazy by now. I pretty much keep to myself and work from home most of the time. This apartment has become my little sanctuary. All stainless steel appliances, high ceilings, air conditioning & heat, really hot water (love hot showers), great security. I feel really safe here and being a younger girl living alone that is a necessity. Thanks Karl!

The Met is the most convenient, reasonably priced, efficient apartment in downtown Los Angeles with Starbucks, Ralph's, Staples Center, public transportation all within one- two blocks. I've lived here for a little over two years now and is about to renew my lease. I've looked into moving to other apartments like Medici, Piero, Park La Brea, etc but none had the same convenience that the Met has. The Building: Overall, the maintenance takes good care of the building so it's always in good shape. There's usually one of the three elevators broken so if you need to use the restroom, don't wait till you get home. The Amenities are okay for a apartment in the heart of downtown, the gym is small but machines are new and clean, the swimming pool is actually swimming pool not a little dipping pool. The Front Desk/ security: Keion & Elvia are the nicest people ever, I love coming home and seeing them at the front desk, they're very welcoming. Marcus (the security manager) is nice too, he can come off as a strict or judgmental person but if you speak to him, he's pretty chill. I had that impression for the longest time but when you get used to him, you'll realize that he's just doing his job by keeping the apartment safe and in order. The other front desk securities, are not very outspoken so I haven't gotten to know them as well. Maintenance: This is probably one of the most important things when living in a apartment because whatever happens in your apartment affects you directly. The Met has one of the BEST maintenance team of all the other apartments that my friends live in downtown. If something is wrong with your apartment and you notify them, they will come fix it within the hour or the next day depending on the importance. Mario & Earnesto are the two most genuinely nice people I've ever met! They fix everything quickly, and efficiently. I never feel awkward when they came in to fix things or be in my house when I'm not there! I once had the unit above me leak water so my entire room and living room was flooded. The maintenance came that night and tried to do everything they could. At the time I was also renewing my lease and the office made the process very complicated by picking out all the little details and speaking to us like we were little kids. The leasing office had no clue what I had to go through for almost two weeks with huge machineries (fans blowing at night) all over my apartment and things piled up that we couldn't walk or sleep. It was a very stressful time but the Maintenance team really made it better by showing that they care and communicated with me of the process every day. Leasing Office: From my experience, Karl and Kim are the only two people that are actually helpful, informative and nice. The leasing office can be condescending sometimes but at the end of the day you just have to understand that they are just going by the rules in better words, doing their job. James is nice too, but he's always very busy. Parking: I had a friend who lived at the Piero (a very nice apartment in downtown) and had his car stolen from their gated garage. The Met's garage is very safe, but I do wish that they had circle mirrors on every corner so that you don't get surprised when you turn the corner and see another car speeding your way. During big events at the Staples Center, the valet across the street parks on the 1st level of the parking garage so you have to be very careful for they drive recklessly and also running from across the street in all directions.

Be warned: these people are not honest in their dealings. We requested an apartment under the terms of the Affordable Income Program, and the management company never made a good faith effort to process our application, despite taking our application fees and deposit. What's worse, after two months came around, they still couldn't give us an answer, so we had to withdraw. They never refunded our fees or deposits--over $200 worth. During the application process, we were given repeated excuses about how The Met had other obligations to attend to, such as its monthly budgeting, and it was fairly clear to us that they either weren't interested in our application or didn't know how to process it. In the end, they couldn't even take responsibility for their inaction or admit their wrongdoing. I'm currently in the process of taking them to court over this matter, in effort to get my deposit back. The building itself seems nice, but I would highly discourage anyone from dealing with this management company. Evan and Blake, the two supervisors, are both incompetent, and they have little clue how to run a building, let alone interact effectively with clients. What's worse, The Met itself has obviously obtained benefits from participating in the Affordable Income Program, which is a government sponsored project. In return for receiving public funds, The Met agreed to lease out a small percentage of its apartments to middle-income residents. The problem is they don't actually see fit to do this part. By creating a labyrinthine process, they can discourage potential tenets. (If you don't believe me, call them and ask why apartment #603 has been vacant for over four months now). More to the point, The Met itself is governed by a highly corporate ethic, one in which residents are merely paying tenants, not people, and it shouldn't be surprising how ineptly we were treated in this process. I would highly discourage anyone from living in this building. As nice as the amenities are, it just isn't worth dealing with the management.

My daughter currently lives here, and the management office is incredibly dishonest and really doesn't care one bit about its residents. They "make up" rules along the way and are really rude to my daughter when she tries to deal with them. You may think that the property management doesn't really matter in a lease, but THESE PEOPLE DO! Do NOT rent at this place!!
