The Contra Costa Canal Trail is popular year-round with runners, walkers, bikers, dog-walkers, etc., but at the same time, has enough "breathing room" that you don't feel crowded. Bonus pts for the tall trees along the path, and the sight and sound of ducks and frogs in the canal.

Paula Martersteck: Excellent full-scale grocery, with an emphasis on organic food (though not exclusively). Good selection of meat, fish, fresh produce, bulk merchandise, fresh and dried herbs, more. Parking lot. Less than a 10-minute walk from Pleasant Hill BART station.
