Luis Trigueiro: Great Monument! This tower along with a similiar one and a fort were Lisbon's main defense against enemy ships and pirates. During the 1755 earthquake both tower crumbled. This one was rebuilt. The tower itself was all surrounded by the river, later the city expanded towards the river and claimed the tower! :)
