There are many trails in Schenley Park that are suitable for walking, running, and mountain biking. Many of the trails feature old bridges that are quite attractive.
The area of Forbes Avenue approaching the Schenley Golf Course has lots of older stone houses. The architecture is wonderful and the properties have been well maintained.
Fair Oaks Street is typically of the more expensive area of Squirrel Hill North. The houses are large and well maintained. The streets are tree-lined and much quieter than the major arteries closer to CMU or Squirrel Hill South.
Beeler Street houses lots of CMU students and employees. It is short walk to Oakland and Shadyside, despite technically being part of Squirrel Hill North.
WQED is home to Pittsburgh's public television station. It was formerly used to film Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Currently, popular filmmaker, Rick Sebak, produces documentaries there.
The intramural fields are Carnegie Mellon can be used by students to play soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, cricket and other games. The fields are well maintained and parking is available nearby for a fee.
There are always various food trucks near the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Margaret Morrison St. on Carnegie Mellon's campus. Most of the trucks feature Asian or Indian cuisine.
Squirrel Hill North does not have the large, continuous business district that is found in Squirrel Hill South. Instead, there are a few streets with one or two shops. On South Negley, Invitations Plus and Hydration Fitness are the only two stores.
Sunnyledge is a small, relaxing bed and breakfast near the border of Squirrel Hill North and Shadyside. The building still contains the original owner's artwork and features antique stained glass insets.
Squirrel Hill North is also home to Chatham University. Its campus is very private, with rolling hills, old trees, and interesting Gothic style architecture.
The Children's Institute has a small, secluded playground that is popular and well maintained. Off-street parking is plentiful and it is walking distance from most of Squirrel Hill North.
This is a typical street near between Shady Avenue and Murray Avenue. Few houses have off-street parking and most lots are sloped. This area is popular with graduate students and young professionals.
A view down the Forbes Avenue business district that separates Squirrel Hill South from Squirrel Hill North. The street has lots of independent stores, ethnic restaurants, and clothing stores.
Frick park features a large children's playground, off-lease dog park, fitness stations, basketball courts, a baseball field, and mountain biking trails. It is generally less crowded than Schenley Park, but parking is not as convenient.
This is the high school that most students in Squirrel Hill attend. It's famous alumni include NFL Hall of Famer Curtis Martin, Mac Miller, and Wiz Khalifa.
The Schenley Oval Sportsplex contains a running track, walking trails, soccer field, softball fields, and several tennis courts. There is plenty of free parking available on Overlook Drive.
