Home to the world's largest community of Sri Lankans outside the country itself, #Tompkinsville Staten Island's Little Sri Lanka is a nexus of the island nation's piquant cuisine.
Captain Tilly Park
Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: Captain Tilly Park Highland Ave., 85 Ave. bet. 165 St. and Chapin Pkwy. Queens Directions via Google Maps This text is part of Parks’ Historical Signs Project and can be found posted within the park. Captain George H. Tilly Park is located in #JamaicaHills Queens. Named for a local son of a prominent Jamaica family who was killed while fighting in the American subjugation of the Philippines in 1899, the park has a beautiful pond right in the center.
Bryan Park
Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: Located in the #Fordham section of the Bronx, this park honors New York veteran John Fraser Bryan. It features a sitting area with benches, a three-banner flagpole with a yardarm, and a planting area surrounded by a cobblestone retaining wall. Local residents use the sitting area to wait for the bus on the Fordham Road side of the park.
City Island Nautical Museum
Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: Located on Fordham Street in the #CityIsland section of the Bronx is the City Island Nautical Museum. The City Island Nautical Museum displays maritime artifacts and antiques. It is located at 190 Fordham Street and is open only on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (other times by appointment). Admission is free and there is a small gift shop. The building was PS17 in its prior life.
