Gazebo in Riverview Fiske Park
Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: Before Hurricane Sandy hit Jersey City, a beautiful gazebo stood in this spot as a great place to view the New York skyline. After the hurricane ravaged #TheHeights, the gazebo was wiped away, but the community came together to hold a benefit to rebuild their beloved gazebo.
Abandoned Buildings
Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: #TheHeights district of Jersey City is broken up into a fairly plain and easy to follow grid. Houses and residential areas fill almost 90% of the town with the exception of three main roads that all run parallel to each other, Palisade Avenue, JFK Boulevard and Central Avenue. Besides from the residential homes and the shopping district, you can also find a wealth of abandoned buildings, graffiti and decay.

Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: The art scene has been blowing up in Jersey City over the past five to ten years. Galleries are popping up all over, artists have more venues to show their work, the city is embracing the talent of the community and murals like this one located in #TheHeights can be found throughout the whole city.
Jersey City Street Art
Kathleen Patricia Odenthal: Street art is prominent throughout #TheHeights in Jersey City. This chalk mural on the sidewalk in Riverview Fiske Park was done by a local artist as a live perspective of the view of Manhattan from that place in the park. Jersey City has a very active arts community, both inside and outside.
