The Carlyle truly does not deserve a single star. Constant turnover in the office makes it very difficult to get to know anyone or develop a sense of community. The ones that do stay, really should go. They are not helpful, don't want to open the package room, pretend they don't know you , and work really hard at being surly. They are more concerned about the placement of the balloons tied to the outside door. Underground parking lot is virtually impossible to manipulate, spaces too small, concrete beams everywhere. Lastly, while maintenance personnel is on site during the day, they are not able to repair the most common, apartment type problem, clogs and leaks. I would take a bit more time and look for another complex. Nothing here to really attract you to come on in!
The apartment building has mice which can be dealt with by closing the inlets at the heaters but the management is worser than any pest in the world. Not all but 1 lady is Rude! Cheat! Mean! and Racist! I left the place in 1 year! I once saw her cheat a poor chinese fresher as he didnt give the notice of 3 months to leave; he was late by 1 day! and she extended his lease by 1 year! DONOT GO THERE!!
THe location is good. There is a restaurant in the first floor of the building which makes the north part of the building smells like a sandwich all day along. Terrible enviortment. The rental office is ridiculous as well. Price varies all year along. Once you move in, there is nothing you can argue with. Maybe just after two days after you move in, you will find someone else's rent is hundreds of bucks cheaper than yours...for old resident, the rent increases like 15% per year..there is no way to argue
I loved the Carlyle Club's Crab Cake Entree. It was such a surprise and a departure from the typical Maryland Old Bay preparation. Something about the spices and fresh herbs (I believe cilantro, but don't remember much else about it) was a great and refreshing take on a Baltimore staple. They also offered a great suzuk appetizer - a spicy Middle Eastern sausage that leaves that kick of a taste in your mouth for over a day. I'd go back for a purely middle eastern sampling of their food, but wasn't disappointed with what I ate.
For the price, these apartments are not worth it. It has mice, the hardwood floors are just tiles that are usually warped, the piping is either PVC pipe or a hundred years old (don't use Draino, it can actually melt through your pipes at this place!), several people (including myself) have seen pieces of their ceilings fall down(!), and heating can get pretty expensive in the winter. If you're planning to go to Hopkins, the walk is pretty far, farther than almost all other near campus options. The pluses are that the apartments are spacious, near giants, have a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and there's also a gym and a pool. But the price here is not at all worth the conditions of their apartments.
