Travelled all the way from State College, PA, to view the apartment we had applied for and reserved only to find out that it was no longer available. We called the avalon fairway hills office before leaving, and the person we spoke to did not bother to inform us that we could'nt have the apartment as the current resident decided to renew the lease. The apartment was showing available all the time we were applying for it online. We had it reserved for almost 5 days and had stopped looking for other places to rent. After reaching the complex we toured the apartment on our own. The property manager just gave us the keys, and even then failed to inform us that apartment is not available. I donot know why they treated us this way, I am just saying what a bunch of inept, incompetent people!!
I am extremely unhappy with the way the office has been treating my inquiries. I have lived here for 2 years and have been upset over the random, unexplained charges that keep popping up on my bill. The charges only come off once you start asking questions. I had to have a guarantor on the initial lease but asked if I could still renew for a third time without a guarantor. The answer was yes but I would have to make an additional deposit. All of a sudden the added deposit was for the current lease that was ending, with the amount equivalent to what the new lease would be. They would not renew the lease unless I paid the deposit for a lease I could not sign. I have asked for answers and received inconsistent answers. The local leasing office and the customer care center in VA seem to be disconnected with neither knowing how the other will handle things. This makes it extremely difficult to resolve anything. Overall the community is GREAT. Nice and quiet, great neighbors, nice amenities, and very prompt maintenance. The exercise equipment is in dire need of an overhaul. It is a pity that dealing with the office tends to mar the experience and leaves you feeling like you are being taken for a ride.
The apartments are clean, quiet and well maintained. If there is a problem, the maintenance crew takes care of it very promptly. This is one of the nicest apartments in the area.
I have lived at Fairway Hills for almost 3 years now. Haven't really had many issues. Some maintenance problems with older equipment (washer, drier, water heater), but they were all replaced within a couple of days. The office staff is very friendly, and despite what people are saying, very helpful. Making changes to my lease, such as adding a pet, or addind another name to the lease, was very easy. Any questions I have had were answered promptly. A couple of times I did receive differing answers from the staff members, but those ended up being due to new hires not truly knowing all the details. Yes some of the apartments are outdated, but that is why they are renovating as people move out. The apartments are definitely a bit more pricey than other local ones. However, after looking at most the other ones in the area, these are MUCH nicer, and in better / safer communities. It's worth the extra cost in my opinion. Free access to the gym is great (really surprised to see they have a raquetball court). There is a pool in each of the three communities. Fairway Hills is a good place to live.
