Denver by Matthew Lopez
Platte River Greenway
Matthew Lopez: #overland The Platte River Greenway marks the West Border of the Overland Neighborhood. The Greenway follows the entire Platte River within the City of Denver, as well as neighboring suburbs. It is a place that not seen by many visitors to Denver. It's a great place to cycle, jog or walk.
Breakfast King
Matthew Lopez: #overland The Breakfast King is basically a greasy spoon type restaurant. It serves basic diner food. The last time I was there, the waitress said "we need to evacuate the building. We have a kitchen emergency and the fire department is on the way. Before you leave, pay your bill." I never got to eat my grilled cheese, but they expected me to pay my bill.
Bill's Sports Collectibles
Matthew Lopez: #overland Bill's once occupied just a store front shop, now it occupies the whole building. If you are a sports fan, or know a sports fan this is a MUST see. Inside you will find every imaginable, and some unimaginable, sports memorabilia anywhere. This is more like a museum, but you can buy stuff.
Walking Raven
Matthew Lopez: #overland Colorado legalized Medical Marijuana several years ago, as a result we have the Medical Marijuana shops all over the State. There is a huge concentration of of shops along the South Broadway corridor, which is the eastern boundary of Overland. Walking Raven is just one of many shops in the area.
RTD Light Rail Evans Station
Matthew Lopez: #overland The light rail and bus transfer hub for the area. I also offers a small Park and Ride Lot. The station sits directly under the Evans Street Bridge. It's very convenient for light rail. But I do find waiting for a bus after dark kind of dicey, there is little traffic or security and only one way out of the area. Other than that, it is convenient at most other times.
Ward/Carter Dance Studio
Matthew Lopez: #berkeley The Ward/Carter Dance Studio is one of the oldest businesses in the Tennyson Street Arts District. Long before the galleries and cafes, that now dot the block, the Dance Studio was where many in the neighborhood learned to dance. It survived the neighborhood decline of the 1980s, and is here for the revitalization in the 2000s.
bookbar
Matthew Lopez: #berkeley This is a combination wine bar and book store. Although the combination of books and wine makes sense, this is the first time I've ever seen it as a store front. I found the "Little Free Library"shelf, outside the front door, to be a very unique feature to the overall concept of the shop itself.
Cozy Cottage
Matthew Lopez: #berkeley The Cozy Cottage is a breakfast and lunch cafe, with a huge shade tree, that shades and keeps the outside patio cool. The cafe has converted one of Berkeley's original houses, and serves top notch meals. It has been chosen as 5280 Magazine Best Breakfast in Denver, and I don't disagree.
